A note came home from school today saying my 5yo son's friend's mom died suddenly monday. Brayden has spoken about it a bit but he was confused on the details and thought it was his friend's dad and that he died cause he was 99yo.

I have not met this family personally, but I know this is a boy my son plays with in school a lot and talks about. Are there are good gift or book ideas for a 5yo that just lost his mom? He also has an older brother in 2nd grade. I would like to help in some way and encourage Brayden to do something thoughtful for his friend. I have never been faced with this situation and need some advice and suggestions. Thanks!

A nice stuffed animal would be nice for he younger one I'm not sure about the older son, maybe a book where he can fll in memories of his mom?

Thanks. I just found out his mom collected elephants so Brayden is going to give his classmate a webkins elephant to cuddle with and make him feel closer to his mom. I am still trying to come up with some other ideas though. I wish there was more we could do... it is amazing how much something like this affects you when it is so close to home. It really makes you cherish what you have a bit more. I also feel incredibly helpless that there are two little boys that are now hurting so much, I cannot imagine both of my parents being gone at such a young age!

It does put things in perspective. Thanks for the reminders. My prayers are with the family. (I think a webkin to cuddle with is perfect for the older boy too!)
