?s about weight blankets

Our OT says our 33 month old is too young for a weighted blanket. After researching, I'm not so sure. What weight, height, and age were your youngsters when you first used a weighted blanket? Is there anyone here in which a weighted blanket did not help?

Thanks,

We didn't get a weighted blanket because Gabe hates covers on him. We did use a weighted backpack though. It was a mini backpack and we put in a a 20oz water bottle and some of his Thomas trains and a few matchbox cars. We started using it around 33mo. It worked wonders and we started calling it the magic backpack because his behavior changed so much. One time it did backfire on us though. We were in a huge crowd and we let him walk without his backpack....he started to loose it so we put his it on....and it made it worse. It was like he suddenly realized there were tons of people. He started covering his ears and crying...he was so scared. We had to leave because we couldn't calm him.

I wish I had some answers for you on the weighted blanket. Will your son let you cover him at night? We used weighted lap pads too. Gabe's OT used them with him. I should buy some of those for preschool.

Let us know what you decide? Or if your therapist gives you other ideas. Gabe still doesn't sleep well. It takes him a long time to go to sleep and he has to play with my hair. He also won't stay sleeping in his own bed. It is very frustrating.

hi Caren-
Kaia started using the weighted blanket when she was 4.

she was about 36 lbs and I am not sure about the height? It has helped Kaia tremendously, especially when she is still fidgety when she is going to sleep. It definitely calms her enough to fall asleep.
