I was curious how you've handled issues with your child and school?

I'm sorry, that just sounds horrible that they won't provide him with the services he needs. We have a very informative group over on our Special Education Plans board if you need any advice with his IEP: http://forums.ivillage.com/t5/Special-Education-Plans/ct-p/iv-pppiep

I can't believe that it's legal for them to refuse to re-open his IEP, and I hope you can find some way to fight them on it.

I'm having major issues. My ds if 4 going to be 5 in January. He had an evaluation done through early intervention when he was 3 and an IEP was created. The school administrators were horrible and were unwilling to provide him with OT services which he desparately needed then unwilling to provide

That's awful! I hate it when I hear stories like this :( Our school is able to handle this boy's issues, I think it was just too overwhelming for him though.

I home school too. We would have had a really horrible teacher who had no tolerances for differences for kinder. So I said I was red shirting him and then we did a virtual school the next year (where he tested in at grade level.)

Really though, it depends on the school. In that year, my son did speech and OT at the school. The OT was so relieved when I said we would be homeschooling the following year. Other schools, like some in my current district, are set up to handle kids who have differences, unlike the one we were in that was only focusing on test scores.
