Shut downs & developmental preschool

I am a stay at home mother of three, homeschooling my oldest who is school aged.

My soon-to-be 3 year old can go to the school district preschool next month, 4 half days a week. They have speech, occupational and physical therapies there.

Problem: My daughter shuts down in groups like that. We tried a speech group of 6 kids, and she turned off. Sunk down. Turned red. We went several weeks... a therapist asked me if she was having a seizure right there She wasn't, she's just that "shy". (she had a 40 min long seizure last year when I brought her to a nursery for an hour...). She has a normal mental ability, but looked like she knew nothing at all. She is doing well with a 1:1 speech therapist now, after a couple months to open up to her.

What do you do with your kids who shut down completely?

Thank you for the ideas.

I am in the process of finding the right preschool for her. I am hopeful to find one with a small/tiny class size. I would rather her be close to home, but that would mean a large class size...

But in the mean time, I'd love to know what other moms do in this situation.

Will your son be going to preschool? Are you going to "fight" for a smaller group or slowly introduce him to the big group?
