ok my daughter is about to age out of early intervention, and i let yall know the other day her IEP has been written up every thing looks good, and i am pleased. but the one thing i do not have is a document stating that indeed my daughter has been diagnosed with sensory processing disorder, my daughter has seen 4 OT's and 2 psychologist in the last 15 months!! and they all say it, all of there therapies have been sensory based. So when I asked my daughters current OT last night, if she could write me up something, she tried to tell me that SPD didnt really exsist so an official diagnoses wouldnt mean anything, that insurance wouldnt cover it! Look i know SPD hasnt made it in to the DSM-V yet and i could care less wether insurance will cover this, i just want it for my own piece of mind ya know.. SPD is so much of who my daughter is and why she does half the crazy crap she does ya know...

so i guess my question is what do i do ?? is it wrong that i needs this concrete proof if only just for myself. so that i know im not crazy!! that she really does have a disorder!

any imput is greatly appreciated!

Thank

Amy H.

I am pretty sure that there is a dx code for sensory processing disorder....has your daughter seen neurologist? I have Gabe's speech eval and on it, it states that he has SID.....his neurologist can also give us that label....but for now she only has his apraxia and severe speech delay noted...we go back at the end of next month for a four month neuro eval....my understanding is SID is neurologically based....so i don't know why it would not have a dx code.....odd

let me know if you find anything out...

No, there actually is no diagnostic code for SPD.

I have paper's with a dx of SPD!!!!! I even made a copy for the school. But I'm not sure if there was a code of any sort, but it is in her med. records at her doc.'s too. Janelle like a few of the other kids here is treated for other things so SPD is listed on her papers but not as the number one issue. For Leanna it is. See this is why we as parents have to fight for our kids to make people aware of the facts!!!

Simon also has dx of SPD. I think it all has to do wit the doc. The phsyc we saw said that he had sensory issues and prescribed OT. Im not sure how it went through with our insur. but we work for a company that buys its own plan through a biger corp. and the lady on the office that handels all this is awesome at "finding a way". But the Doc i switched Simon to actually put it into his med records.

I have started writing to Oprah every week. She has done shows on all sorts od disabilities and i thought wha better way to get the word out than Oprah? Shes big enough to really put pressure on our medical fields to get this is their MDM. Anyone want to help me?

I understand with the want of dx. it helps to be able to say it and have med field backing you up when your trying to explain to those who just dont understand. Good Luck! ~love my red~
