What's food?

My sweet little two year old grandson is so oral. At 25 months he loves his 'Nuk' even more than ever. He is not able to stop putting things in his mouth, and drools a lot too. But the odd thing is that he's totally a picky eater. He won't eat his lunch but will put playdoh in his mouth, or bite the tires off of little cars. Last month he crunched a candle from his birthday cake, and ignored the cake.

We are blessed that his physical growth, cognitive growth and language are are moving forward well.

We're providing all kinds of blowing toys, an electric toothbrush, a nuckie at nap and nighttime, a variety of foods with different tastes and textures to sample... He has a huge vocabulary and is quite understandable (to me LOL)so the mouth/jaw/facial muscles seem OK. Any other ideas? He puts EVERYTHING in his mouth...well, except his dinner.

I have a oral seeker as well.....I can't even think of all the things that Gabe has eaten or put in his mouth....we also had a problem with over stuffing of the mouth...both are doing better now...He is three....it looks like you are doing some good stuff for the oral sensory stuff...we use a vibrating toy called a jiggler that works well too...it is a little more intense then the eectric toothbrush...we also give gabe thick drinks...like thinned out yogurt to drink through a straw....we do applesauce through the straw too...and eat chewy foods like skittles, gummy worms, gummy bears...if you don't want to use candy you can use dried fruit like appricots...but gabe wouldn't even touch them...fruit snack don't work as well because they are as chewy as the worms and bears are...
