Can I join you?

Well, I wondered if I might join you all here? I am a mum from the UK - I have a 10 month old and we from the UK board are all visiting our "sister" board of the September Sprites 2005 (yes, we are all quite insane.) Take a look http://messageboards.ivillage.com/iv-prplaysep05n/?msg=12667.1

Anyway, as well as the Sept 2005 board at home the SN Board is one I use a lot as I have a 5 year old with severe SN, and I thought as I am "over here" for a while I would look in on your board too - would that be ok?

My DD who is 5 has CP, severe learning disabilities and epilepsy. She doesn't walk or talk and is incontinent. She is wonderful - happy, sociable and loves company.

Looking forward to chatting with you all.

Hi Michele

Our daughters do sound very similiar, don't they? It would be lovely to talk more and you can email me thorugh my profile if you want to. I'd love to hear from you.

Does your daughter go to school? (I'm not sure what age children start in the USA). My daughter, Eloise, will finish her first year in reception tomorrow. We decided to go for a mainstream not special school for the first three years (reception and years 1-2.) The school have been fantastic, but I have had some almighty battles with the LEA (local education office). That's generally the way here, I don't know about there, but would be interested to hear. Eloise has full time 1:1, including all meal and break times. The children have been really good with her and, I suppose because she's happy and smiley, they all want to be her friend. But there is an enormous chasm between her and her peers and I don't think she wil stay at mainstream after year 2. It's a hard decision to make.

Does your daughter have therapies like physio, OT, speech and language? I think that all works very differently in the USA to the UK, because of your whole insurance system??

Do you know why your daughter has the problems she does? Does she have a wheelchair?

Can you tell I don't often come across similiar sounding children with all these questions?!! Hope you don't mind me asking... :)

Hope to hear from you.
