Hi everyone - My 16 mo old son was just diagnosed with Celiac Disease on Friday. I've been doing plenty of research and I know this can be managed but we've got a lot of learning to do and a long road ahead of us. I'm a little overwhelmed and am waiting for the GI Dr from the children's hospital to call so I can start getting answers to the long list of questions I already have. Are there any other Mom's on this board with kids who have Celiac? Thanks! Heidi

Heidi,
Hello! My 4 year old son was diagnosed 2 years ago with celiac. The only reason they did the diagnostic test was because he has Down syndrome and they typically have a better chance with getting celiac than other children. I'll be honest with you, I was obsessed with finding ANYTHING I could about celiac and it was really hard. Cal does not have any symptoms of celiac, so I have not done anything too much about his diet. I know that probably sounds horribe; however, he has other issues to deal with. I can give you some advice: Oscar Mayer or John Morrell hotdogs do not have gluten, canned veggies do not. I spent on night and emailed every food distributor in the united states asking for a list of their products that do not contain gluten and I received a TON of replies. Go to this website: http://www.foe.org/safefood/companylist.html#anchor98542: you can get every link to the top 100 food distributors and start there. I've gotten on many mailing lists that keep me posted about things. You will find things like toothpaste have gluten in it. It is crazy. I would start there if you are looking for a diet change. I hope it helps! Email me anytime you have questions. I don't know a lot, but I may be able to help a little.
