High chair ideas for disabled child???

My sister needs some help finding a supplier/manufacturer of high chairs/feeding chairs for children with disabilities. Her daughter is 3.5 and large for her age and needs a bigger and stronger high chair than those commonly avaliable for infants and toddlers. They're hoping to find something that will work for their daughter for the next many years. She needs to be restrained in the chair (lapbelt) and it needs to have a tray.

Anyone have any ideas?? Thanks so much!!!

Thanks Jan! I've posted here before (have a child with special needs myself) but I'm certainly not a regular. ;) When my sister called today I knew just where to go! I knew I could find someone here that could help. :)

Giving her a few links to check (or even personal recommendations) would be wonderful! Her daughter's needs are overwhelming and I'd love to be able to give her some good leads on this one small thing.

The child is strong and very mobile so the chair needs to be very sturdy and stable (so she can't tip it over). Needs a lap belt. The kind of belt that comes up between the legs would be fantastic! It also needs a detachable tray. Other than that, I can't think of any other special needs.

Thank you again. Your help means a lot to me and will to my sister as well!

Hi Kelsee and welcome back! Your sister should coordinate this with her daughter's PT. The Physical Therapist will be able to select the proper chair for what your sister's child needs for proper positioning. A couple of websites that you can look at to get some ideas are www.equipmentshop.com also www.adaptivemall.com

Good luck!

Thanks so much for the ideas.

And "duh!" about working with the PT. Neither one of us thought about that! :) I'll pass all of this on to my sister. Thank you!!!

You're welcome! There is a lot of neat stuff out there. You can always go window shopping and see what features you like. Then pass on what you would like to have in a chair to the PT so they can pick the proper chair to meet the child's physical needs. Let us know what chair she picks! : )
