I'm Kelsee, mama to Haley (9/27/02). She was diagnosed prenatally with Dandy Walker malformation (4th ventricle cyst, agenesis of the cerebellar vermis, cerebellar hypoplasia) and hydrocephalus. At 2 weeks old she had a dual VP shunt placed. She had a revision to her shunt system in Dec 2003 and has been doing fine since then. She has a history of tonic/clonic seizures but is seizure and med free right now.
This summer she was diagnosed with vision impairments which have had a negative impact on her depth perception, balance, motor and cognitive skills (a double whammy with the brain issues). She has Brown's Syndrome and other forms of strabismus, severe hyperopia (farsightedness) and anisometropia. She has had glasses for 6 weeks and is doing better with some things like attention span and fine motor skills. We are hoping that the other skills will get better over time.
She's been in therapy since she was 4 months old and will start into a special preschool program for 2 year olds through our EI/neurodevelopmental center in September. It's two days a week for two hours both days. She's going to love it! She is currently on break but usually receives therapy for motor, speech, cognitive and sensory issues.
She's a complete delight and joy. We're having so much fun with her!
I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you.
