Sammy starts 1st grade on Sept 7. She has made major strides this summer (riding a bike, tae kwon do etc). I think I'm going to go crazy waiting for school to start as Ruby also starts speech class then.

Alicia went to school on September 2 and she has her aide from last year...which makes me happy because I don't have to teach anyone how to "relate" to Alicia. She has a new communication board...it's plear plexi glass and is velcroed to her wheelchair arm. Then you put boardmaker pictures on a clear overhead and voila she can eye gaze directly to someone who sits in front of her So hopefully her friends will be able to chat directly to her without adult intervention. THAT would be a plus. She also has a talking picture frame (which will evolve into a better switch) attached to her headrest that she hits and it says "i have something to say" so SHE can draw attention and make comments about anything she'd like! As for therapies...well they are back in school mode too so they are status quo until the first visits to the school are made.

Oh, the board sounds like a terrific tool for Alicia and I'm glad that there is technology available for her to use.

She'll be more thrilled when she gets her new desk. Apparently they are trying out a new desk for kids in wheelchairs and she is the guinea pig. When this desk gets to her classroom, her computer will be put on her desk, and she will be right in the thick of things when she is doing her work.
