We have the cutest book ever. It's called "Ruby in Her Own Time". It's about a little duck that doesn't hatch or anything else at the same time as her brothers and sisters. She is also littler than her siblings and Dad is worried. Her mom just says "She will... in her own time."
I never realized special needs kids can relate to Ruby (the duck, not my ydd) until Sammy announced "Ruby (the duck)is just like me. It took her a long time to grow up or learn anything, but her mom and dad were patient, and she learned!!"
Don't worry, I didn't ruin the end for anyone, but I just had to share this. We got the book because it had "Ruby" in the title. My kids think we have to get anything with Ruby, Sam or Sammy in the title.

I think I remember Leo the Late Bloomer from when I was young. Ruby in her own time is just plain cute and cool.
A funny about our kid's names in book titles - Sammy's favorite book used to be Green Eggs and Ham. It was such a favorite, I've memorized it!! She couldn't say Green Eggs and Ham, so she would ask for the "Sammy Ham" book (couldn't say Sam I Am either). She even started calling herself Sammy Ham. It stuck and we still call her Sammy Ham sometimes, just not in public because "it's embarassing, mom"

cute! Your story would make some fun scrap book pages or at least warrant a couple of paragraphs in your journal.
