Hi! I'm new to posting. I could really use some help. I hope to hear from anyone that has a similar situation. My son is 6 years old (almost 7) and is going into 1st grade. He has had speech for 3 years for articulation. This year in kindegarten they felt that his issues were less in articulation but more in recalling vocabulary/expression.In addition, the school identified he might have visual difficulties. We had him tested and he does have visual issues (convergence insufficiency, mild amblyopia, and compressed field of vision). In school, he concentrates and has friends. At home, it has always been a struggle...he can be combative at times (especially toward me), sleeping issues, constantly in motion (rarely sits to watch a tv show), seems to get enjoyment out of being in trouble. I have always felt like there was something different with him but since he does well in school (with following directions, maintaining attention, making friends, etc.) nothing has been diagnosed other than the speech issue and more recently the visiual issue. According to the testing that was done in school, his executive functioning is fine so he does not have ADHD, Autism, etc. However, several of the behaviors at home mimic those that one would see with other disorders. I don't know what to do first. At least we are starting to address his visual difficulties but I really do feel that there is something more than that. Suggestions? Thanks!
