Hi,
I have just finished reading the book and other articles on Alfie Kohn's site
I like the idea that kids test whether our love is unconditional and that consequences are important , not those that make the kid say ' what's in it for me ' but consider how their actions affect others

It appears that I did not leave an impression on you. We had an interesting discussion on problem solving approaches, explosive child etc and NHA or rather your unique approach as I found it on the NHA site. I am clearly not a behavior mod queen , although I think NHA is the best one out there. I like to learn from every one and create an approach which suits my personality and parenting philosophy. Alfie Kohn has made an enormous impression on me , especially helping me question my assumptions. One point from his numerous articles is a review on research on self esteem. My kid has a super ego , low self esteem was not a problem , but as Alfie Kohn points out , high self esteem is also a problem because it focuses on the SELF, the I and not on the other.
