Soup Name....aandjsmama

Real Name (if you want to share)... Shelley

a little bit about you and your family....aandjsmama comes from Alicia and Jordan (i am literally A and J's mama.LOL) My DH and i are married for almost 8 years and our special needs child is Alicia, she is 6 and she has Athetoid Cerebral Palsy with spastic quadri paresis and a seizure disorder. She does not speak and uses a wheelchair. This all came about as a result of birth asphyxia and we have spent the last 6 years trying everything to make her life as "normal" as possible. Although she does not speak, sit up or walk, everything is physical with her disability...her mental capabilities are all intact and she is a typical 6 year old in likes, dislikes, ATTITUDES (I cannot wait for the teenage years.LOL)....so we have been working to have the technology in place so that she can live a "normal" life. Now we are also the parents of Jordan, he is 16 months old and he is our "garden variety" child, so things in our lives have gotten busier lately. Alicia is the best big sister and she takes good care of "her" baby, and Jordan is very gentle with his sister (but not anyone else). We are very lucky as Alicia doesn't have any pressing "medical", or "health" concerns. Her CP is a part of her, and her seizures are controlled with meds, after those two things she is as healthy as a horse, and so is Jordan. I don't think of us as any different than most families without special needs kids , we just do things a little differently than those families do.
