My son had his follow-up appointment after the antibiotics today. He was on Omnicef (I think) for 10 days and today there was still a significant infection in his right ear (inflamation and redness), and fluid behind his left ear drum. We're trying another round of antibiotics (a broader-spectrum one this time) to see if that clears it. The doctor said the fluid can persist in the ear, without indication of an infection, for several weeks after antibiotics. And that if this happens and it is affecting his hearing we would be referred to an ENT to either drain his ears, or put tubes in. His hearing screen today came back as "refer", although he does seem to be hearing better after the first round of antibiotics.
Anyway, I guess I'll post more after this round. I can't believe he had ear infections (for who knows how long) and I had no idea. He had (and still has) no pain whatsoever with his ears. I just hope that nothing has been permanantely damaged.
Thanks for all the support.
