I couldn't figure out where this board had gone and finally I found that it's been merged. What an absolute bummer.
Anyway...I was never a frequent poster, but definitely a lurker. My daughter is 14 and wears a cochlear implant (Nucleus 24 with SPRIT body worn processor) for her bilateral profound sensorinueral hearing loss. She was diagnosed at about 21 months, wore hearing aids for 6 months, and then was implanted the first time in August 1996 at the age of 3.5 years old with the Nucleus 22. A

Hi Christy,
I don't know anyone, but I can email my colleague in Georgia who may have a better idea. I'm in Florida, but I know the guy at the GA Department of Education that is over Deaf Ed quite well. I'll also see what I can find out about SC. Hope to have some information for you soon!

Hi Christy --
Just wanted to check in and let you know that I haven't heard back from my colleagueat the Georgia DOE yet. I will let you know as soon as I do. In the meantime, it looks like Maria did a lot of homework for you to get started with!
Christy
I haven't heard back from my friend in Georgia. You may want to contact him directly. The GA DOE deaf/hard-of-hearing page is at http://www.doe.k12.ga.us/ci_exceptional.aspx?PageReq=CIEXCDeafHH. Contact information for the state consultant is on that page.
Have joy!

Christy,
I heard back from my friend in Georgia. He consulted someone who gave him the following information:
"The parents may want to contact the Speech and Hearing Center which is affiliated with University Hospital in Augusta. The phone number is (706) 774-8666.
The audiologist Columbia County contracts with is Cheryl Messick. She works for an ENT practice in Augusta. She may be able to refer the parents to a CI doctor. Her work number is (706)736-3862.
Many of the CI children here in Augusta see doctors/audiologists in Atlanta.
I hope this will help the parents."
I hope that this is helpful!

Christy,
Some additional information from Georgia:
"FYI…members of the deaf community meet on the 3rd Saturday of each month at the Augusta Mall Food Court from 12-3pm. This may be of interest to her family since they are new to the Augusta area."
I hope that all of this information helps.
Sincerely,
Dawn
Glad I could help. I will cross my fingers that you find a suitable doctor!
Have joy!
