January Chat Thread Part 1

I called this one chat thread because I wasn't sure if we wanted to continue the ltp tradition with the wonky time code issues.  So if you guys vote to still do ltp, I'll just edit the thread title :)

How was everyone's first day of the new year?  I got to stay in bed crazy late so that was a nice change since daddy had kiddo patrol.  And they were actually pretty well behaved :)

If you didn't see my fb post on peanut, she's now sleeping in her own bed all night.  Kind of bittersweet since it's the whole growning older thing but it;s hilarious that she's staying in her bed because she has a soccer ball to snuggle.  Odd little kid.

I have things left on my to-do list, but I made the mistake of sitting down and now my get-go is gone, at least temporarily. I guess I should brown the beef for the stuffed pepper supper. Already did the rice so there's less work all at once. Will get the peppers in the oven around 50 mins from now so there's plenty of time for them to soften up nicely.

Peppers ready, will heat the oven in a few mins. The boys are playing nicely right now and I'm enjoying the peace! Tim has been a bit of a pushover in the past and Ben turned into a little bully, so we're trying to toughen up the oldest while still leaving his manners intact and also soften up the youngest so he doesn't develop an attitude of entitlement and rudeness...

I should put Thank You cards on my short weekend to-do list. Most of the Christmas gifts came from the grandparents, so there aren't that many individual notes to write, but I did want to take an extra step this year beyond the verbal thanks and show folks they're appreciated.

If I mail them all, this also helps with my strategy of more snail mail out, hopefully more in as well... (I didn't like opting out of most Christmas card exchanges this Christmas, so maybe I'll have some money set aside for postage to the US, mostly at Christmas. Email, iVillage and FB may all be included under Internet cost, but I miss snail mail!)

I bought blank cards at the dollar store, both Thank You and regular, so I have a good inventory to start the year from and can grab for a card here and there when a letter might seem to take too long. (I also still have several larger envelopes in case of 4x6 prints being added to these mailings. Most came from my mum, but maybe I can find a good stationery source if she runs out. I'm assuming I don't need to buy new cards just to get envelopes...)

Becca what is the name of the Teen Fantasy series, I'm always on the look out for good stuff for Robert.  He seems to be into fantasy with a smattering of Sci/fi.

Leona, it's the Ranger's Apprentice series by John Flanagan. The first is The Ruins of Gorlan. I also have book two on my e-reader, then I have to check whether Hubby has more of them or I go to print from the library.

For the Thank You cards, I'll probably do one card per family and maybe add in a couple pieces of paper so there can be a note from each boy that I write and they sign. (If you catch him in the right mood, Ben will make a few shapes that could be construed as vaguely resembling his name. It's really cute.)

Took me two tries last night to upload photos of Tim to my website. The second time, I went through the potentials and wrote down file numbers so selecting them would be faster. When I made a list for Ben's photos, I got a lot more. (Photogenic much? Plus we had a couple photo shoots to get a nice headshot to match Tim's school pictures.) I'll try using FTP today to be faster, if I can remember the correct procedure.

I checked FB groups last night. Strangely didn't feel I'd missed that much. Maybe I can stick to weekend visits for a while and gather email addresses for contacting folks during the week. I "talked" with my younger sis more by email in the past couple days than I usually do in a couple months, tsk tsk.

I think last year sometime I made comments to the effect that the boys put their own toys away and I didn't do much on that end - turns out their favourite method of dumping everything in the big toy box drives me crazy after a month or two. I'll take 10-15 mins to go through that box and take out different sets of toys so they can actually find what they want to play with, train tracks or wooden blocks or all the little cars (mostly Hot Wheels). I did that last night 'cause I just couldn't take it any more! ;)
