Do any of you use a netbook? DH had suggested that we get our own personal netbook for using since my laptop seems to be having many issues. I'm not sure I'm on board with that. Can I still hook that up to my printer? I need something that Eva can use for homeschooling, too.

I honestly had never heard of them until you mentioned it. Here is a netbook/laptop comparison I found for you. It looks like a netbook is meant to be a companion to a PC.

The main difference is the netbook often has less memory and does NOT have a CDROM drive. I love how compact a netbook is so it would be great for internet & word processing stuff- or any program application you can download via internet. BUT I couldn't use it for Caleb's homeschool because his curriculum comes on CD I have to install first to use. Also you can't watch dvd's on it but with the advent of netflix that might not be as big of a deal as it used to be.

I didn't realise that netbooks don't have CD/DVD drives and had just thought of them as smaller notebooks with less storage, memory, etc. I guess if you have a desktop you could probably transfer files from any data CDs/DVDs to a flash drive and still have the data for use with the netbook, but it seems like an extra step I would find annoying. ;) I'll stick with my laptop as long as possible!

Could you have an external cdrom drive that you plug in? I am planning on getting Hooked on Phonics for Eva for school next year and she will need the computer for that. I think it comes with something to upload onto the computer unless that was just dvds and you get access to their website. I'll have to look into that. Anyway, would I be able to plug in a drive and also plug into the printer?

Different models have a different number of USB ports but you should be able to plug in a printer or extra drive. Makes it a little less portable but you'd only have them hooked up sometimes :)

Hmmm.....I'm liking the sound of a netbook for me. Thanks for all the info, Angie!! I then could get rid of my computer desk in the living room and perhaps get a keyboard and then get rid of my piano out in the sunroom! Hmmm....I like that idea, too. :)
