Odd random facts about....

Me/You!!!
I think it's time for some random fun and while I was doing a minor kitchen clean, the idea came to me to start a thread where we share little ideosyncracies.  You can do one at a time and then reply to people as they post and add more (unless you're truly weird in your lack of weirdness!)

I'll get us started--

Sand! It's evil and just the thought of touching it turns my stomach.  But i love the ocean so i do my best to not freak out on the way to the water.  And try even harder not to freak out as i watch the kids dig in the nasty stuff and get it all over them!

Who's going to play next?

Sand is okay, just annoying when it gets on everything you take to the beach and then home again!

Hmm... I'm not sure what everyone else will find weird, so I'll just throw things out there. :smileywink: First one:

I have a strong aversion to being called Becky. When I started school, I asked to use my full name, but there wasn't much response from teachers and family. By my 20's, when I was married and moved across country with Hubby, I put my foot down. I was surprised at the uproar! "We've called you Becky for years, we can't change now!" Oy. Seemed like a good time to ditch a name that felt juvenile and also just-not-me!

Mum tries the hardest, and uses Becca now. Yay! Score one for Becca/Rebecca!

Lindy - I don't mind touching sand, but I can not walk on it very well.

Becca - I had teachers that always called me Cynthia. It angered me that they continued to do it after I asked them not to. One even argued with me when I told her my name is NOT Cynthia. It says Cindy on my birth certificate. Aahh!

I am always told I am weird, so I'm sure I will be able to participate.  So here goes.  My first piece of weirdness is my aversion to cotton balls.  I can not stand those things!  I can't stand the feel of them, the thought of rubbing them between fingers gives me the willies.  My entire body tightens up when somebody rubs it and it makes that "cotton sound."  I am in big trouble when I open a medicine bottle plugged with the stuff.  I usually have to find tweezers to pull it out.

Hahahahahaha Cindy!!! I'm not laughing at you but my brother was picking on me for flipping out over the sand during my visit there (the sand at this particular beach was powdery and flung everywhere and i was not pleased :smileytongue:) and then he revealed that he felt the same way you do about cotton balls! He can't even stand to hear the word! So he pretty quickly stopped teasing me about the sand or he knew i had ammo to throw at him :smileytongue:

Btw...chalk is right there with sand for me :smileywink:

And wow at your teachers calling you a name that isn't even on your birth certificate! Yikes and grrrr

Ugh to having to fight not to be called a nickname that you hated. Yay for putting your foot down but I imagine it's hard for people to get that you wanted a change. If they had just listened to you when you first spoke up though, then there wouldn't have been an issue!

Speaking of names, i think i've shared this before but it might have been long enough ago that some of the newer peeps wouldn't know it. My first grade teacher is the one that told me what my legal name was. On my first day, i couldn't find my locker and she finally came out to see what was taking so long and took me to a locker. It had some other kid's name on it but she told me to use it, so i did. Then i went in the class and had the same problem finding my desk. So i got assigned to the yellow reading group (slowest group lol) and after one session where she could see that i could already read, she pulled me aside and asked my name. I told her Lindy and she asked my other name. I said Redmon. That's when she asked if i knew my name was Melinda. Ummm....nope! So she moved me to the better reading group and i went home with some questions for my parents lol

That is so funny! I'm afraid JJ will go through something similar if I don't start calling him by Jason or even Jason Jr soon. He has no clue his name is Jason.

It's weird that I never had a problem with chalk while in school, but I don't like the sound of someone writing with it now, even from a TV show!
