How To Spiff Up Your Sig Line

Have you seen all the great signatures and blinkies on iVillage and wonder how to get one of your own?

You can request a signature in the shout-out folder or on http://messageboards.ivillage.com/iv-prsigshownew or http://messageboards.ivillage.com/iv-pssigshow

There are tons of blinkies online if you google "blinkies" and you can also browse through our blinky sharing thread http://messageboards.ivillage.com/n/mb/message.asp?webtag=iv-prcsplay&msg=2120.1&x=y

Then, once you have a signature or blinkies that you want to add, you'll need to follow these steps (copied from Signature Making For Beginners)

First, get yourself a hosting site for your siggy.

Just copying and pasting the siggy that the maker makes for you is using the maker's bandwidth and, although some makers are happy for you to do this, it's not as if getting your own hosting site is a problem. Most of them are free. Photobucket is a popular choice but there are many out there. To get a PB account, just go to photobucket dot com and sign up for one. As I said above - it’s free.

Next, download the siggy to your computer.

If you use a PC, right click on the image and save it to your computer.

If you use a Mac, either drag the siggy to your desktop or click command (on the keyboard) and click (on the mouse) to bring up the menu to save the image to your desktop.

Upload the siggy to your chosen hosting site.

If you use PB, click on the browse button and find the siggy from your computer. Click on open and then on upload.

Put the siggy into your settings.

Go into your board settings and scroll down to the personal signature box.

If you use a PC, check the "use your own HTML" box, then copy and paste the tag code from PB - the middle one - into the personal signature box. You MUST check the box BEFORE you paste the code in or it won’t work.

Click back to WYSIWYG and center the siggy if required.

Scroll down and click on submit. If you use a Mac, copy and paste the tag code into the personal signature box and check the "use your own HTML" box. You can do this before or after you paste the siggy code in.

If you want your siggy centred, type

at the start of your tag code.

Scroll down and click on submit. Your siggy will now show up every time you post.

Here is some information on rotating bewteen different siggies automatically. Tina got this for me off another board when i was trying to do mine a while ago, so thanks Tina!

This will alow you to use more than one siggy without changing your IVillage board settings everyday.

Go here: http://www.cgispy.com/scripts/rimage.shtml

Click on the link in the middle of the page that says: FREE! Sign Up

Fill out the form and make sure to select 468x60 Banners if you still want it to be free.

Check your e-mail to validate your account

Click the: Click Here to login! and log in.

In the box that says Script Manager look for Random Items and click on that.

Then under Script Editor look for Random Image: and click on Add Images under that.

Plug in all your links from Photo Bucket (the box that says direct link)for the sigs you want to rotate and click submit.

Go back to Random Items Manager and under Script Editor click on HTML Codes

Scroll down a little and take the code out of the box labeled Random Image HTML Code:

Now just paste that code in your sig box in your board settings on the top of any IVillage board and hit submit!"

Hopefully this will help anyone who wants several sigs for your member name :)

ETA: If you need a website for web url, you can use our board site, which is http://sites.google.com/site/christiansistersplaygroup/

Sometimes CGI Spy goes a little nutty, so if you have trouble setting up an account, sometimes you have to wait a day or so and try again :) If it still gives you a problem, post a help request in shout-outs and we'll see what we can do to help :)
