Hi, Jennifer!

So far the new year has been good - lots of entertainment in the evenings with Hubby thanks to TV and Netflix (though there's a smaller selection here in Canada), new puzzles for Christmas and always plenty happening online. :) Tim has also had a good speech appt after a couple weeks' break for the holidays and I got new meds from the doc plus an appt scheduled with another doc for testing to determine why I have stomach problems (could be an excess production of acid or an ulcer). Hubby also got a raise before Christmas, so we're starting 2011 with plans to pay down what debt we can (just student loans, our truck and a mortgage, so not too bad) so it won't be too many more years before we start contributing a decent amount to retirement savings.

My favourite things about winter... Hot chocolate and cuddling up in a blanket? ;) We have too much snow already on the ground but I do like how excited Tim gets about "digging" when it's time to shovel. And today we found out that Ben likes the sled Hubby bought last year for Tim, so that gives me a way to give Ben some fun in the snow. (Usually he's just stuck in one spot while I'm clearing snow. If he tries to move, his boots fall off or he does a face plant, poor kid. Next year will be great 'cause he'll be walking everywhere.)

I'm not sure I have any hidden talents, but here are some things I can do: cross-stitch (though very slowly because I have too many hobbies), write fiction, proofread/edit others' writing, and solve word searches fast enough to have impressed Hubby when we were dating. ;) If I think of anything else, I'll let ya know. ;)

Hey, Becca! Glad to be paired up with you!

The new year has been kinda run of the mill, I guess. My Mom's birthday was Jan. 1, so we went out to eat and had presents. Then last week was pretty routine - take care of the baby, do laundry, warm up something for supper, go to bed, repeat. I expect this week to be run of the mill as well, except I've GOT to get the tree down and the evergreen needles off the floor! Also, Friday is my birthday.

My favorite thing about winter... hmmm... I like the cold temperatures because I hate sweating and being hot. We've also gotten a lot more snow this year than usual (and by that I mean we've gotten maybe 6 inches total), and I love that. It's so pretty. I also like that it seems more acceptable to eat junk food in bed under the electric blanket, with a football game on in the background LOL. So in summary, I like most everything about winter! It's my favorite season.

I don't know that I have any hidden talents either. I am a good speller, and in fact I won my second grade bee, my eighth grade bee, and the middle school bee. One weird thing I do well is solve mysteries, so to speak. For example, an elderly lady at church got a letter from the IRS, and she found it confusing and not straightforward at all. I looked at the letter and correctly interpreted its meaning for her. I like challenges like that, and I enjoy doing the income taxes every year. Weird, huh? I also have an amazing sense of smell.

We share a talent for proofreading/editing others' writing. DH earned his college degree a few years ago, and I had great fun marking up his papers for him!

That is so great that hubby got a raise! I know how wonderful it feels to pay down debt, although I have so much more of that to do.

Now remind me again the ages of your children.

Tim is 3 (end of October) and Ben is 1 (start of December). I like having them so close in age even though it means we deal with potty-training when Ben would like everyone to hang out with him at all times, not disappear into the bathroom. ;)

Any plans for your birthday? Any traditions for the day? I like to indulge in a birthday milkshake and usually end up going shopping. We also go out for dinner or get takeout. :)

I've got our Christmas tree in the back of the truck and now just need to take it downtown to a drop-off spot near the train tracks. The village will dispose of the trees after the 14th. :)

You know, I don't remember having spelling bees at school. I would have done pretty well with those, I think. I did win a public speaking contest in grade 4. Still proud of that. ;)

We usually go to eat at Carraba's for any special occasion. They have a delish seafood alfredo dish I adore. For dessert I'll probably have their chocolate cake. On Saturday I think we're having a little get-together with my parents and my brother. My Mom makes eclair cake, so I'll look forward to that as well! DH usually has flowers delivered for me.

We got our tree down yesterday finally. However, we'll probably have needles around the house for months to come. Our tree got so dry, so the needles just fell off the moment we picked it up out of the stand to take it outside. We put ours in our backyard for the wildlife to use as a perch, hiding place, etc.

Ben sounds a lot like Leslie! She has a serious case of the clingies. It was really bad right after I quit my job in September, but it's gotten a little better. Still, it's so hard to get anything done. My husband may not care for the fact that it limits my time to do domestic things, but I secretly kind of like it. One day she won't be little and she won't want anything to do with me, so I try to enjoy it.

How is dealing with two in diapers? I've come to the conclusion that if we have any more kids I want Leslie to be on her way to potty trained by the time I get pregnant. I just can't imagine having to change two kids all day. But as slowly as she meets milestones I may not have the luxury of waiting that long. Time will tell.

Do you have any plans for the weekend? Anything I can be praying about?

Ben's getting much better for clinginess and it's nice when I find both boys playing well with each other.

Tim's been out of diapers for a few months, into pull-ups and now underwear with pull-ups . It's still an ongoing process, but it's much easier these days. Once they can take off their own pants, there isn't as much for the momma to do! (Before that, I usually changed them together or had one playing with toys in the same room as the changing.) Now I send Tim off to the bathroom and only need to supervise when it's time to wipe. (Yay for boys standing up to pee! LOL) He hardly needs me anymore, though I do get him his next pair of underwear and pants when needed, just to make sure he isn't going to complain about doing it. Ben's usually playing happily through all of that - getting used to having to share me. :)

If the weather forecast holds for rain from Friday to Monday, we'll be spending Friday visiting in my hometown (parents and hopefully also the parents of my high school bestie). No plans for the rest of the weekend but hopefully we'll find entertaining ways of spending it. We could all watch "Despicable Me" for the first time... :)

For prayer, I'm thinking of me sticking to my Bible reading at mealtimes, Hubby and I not being too busy to spend time together and the boys not driving me crazy or hurting each other. ;) Little things, but they make good or bad days.

I think in a way having two kids close in age would be easier. That way they can entertain each other a little bit. Also, I guess it is true that when one gets somewhat independent like Tim, it's not as difficult as I was thinking it might be.

Leslie is getting to be so wiggly at diaper change time! She drives me crazy trying to keep her from sitting up, turning around, looking over the edge, etc.

DH is going to take Friday and next Tuesday off from work, and he's also off Monday for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day here in the US. That's going to be a lot of DH at one time, so I'd appreciate prayer for harmony in our home while he's off.

How's your tummy?

I'll keep your Bible reading and the rest of your concerns in my prayers. My internet keeps going in and out, so I'm going to stop here and check on the laundry.

Tim and Ben do play together and sometimes they go for a while without fighting over the same toy. ;) And now Tim's also wanting to hug Ben a lot, which is really cute.

I changed Ben on the floor early on because I remembered how nervous the top of the change table made me when Tim started to roll and squirm. Now Ben's either trying to crawl away during a change or he's standing (which is actually really helpful). I bribe him with a toy when it's a stinky change 'cause I'm not risking a mess all over the place. ;)

I totally get the need for harmony when there are so many days off. Hubby had the week after Christmas off and that's a lot more time together than usual! ;)

My stomach's doing okay today, just a little unhappy at one point. I really hope next week's appt is productive. Since it's my first time with this doc after a referral, I'm assuming it'll mostly be questions and then telling me what testing can be done. Hopefully it won't take long to get something scheduled so there are answers and treatment!

Sorry this is late! Got the bday thread, but thought this one needed some birthday fun as well. :) It's been a busy day, but I've managed to get here while it's still the 14th in the West, so here's a cake to celebrate!

Hope you've had a great weekend!

Ours was good, pretty relaxing. Now I'm not sure I want to get back to the normal routine. ;)

I'll try to get some organising/cleaning done tomorrow morning and right after lunch we have Tim's appt with the speech therapist. Hopefully it'll be a productive but not taxing day.
