Andrew had jaundice too, and because he wasn't nursing well, we were doing breastmilk bottles + formula. I didn't get in to see the good LC until after Andrew's jaundice cleared (we were in the hospital for 2+ days with the lights). Fortunately, I could keep up with pumping so we never needed formula again after that. I remember the first time we took Andrew to the LC, he did have a good feed (she measured him before and after too so it truly was good), but then he woudln't do it again. I called the LC, and she said "I knew it was too good to be true" so she really understood what was going on.
Those ideas for working from home with a day care or doing volunteer work are all awesome. Its too bad volunteer work isn't enough to satisfy DH, because he has the opportunity to do a lot with the organizations he's invovled with. He needs to make money too to validate him. But the stuff he could do through his organizations is really important...
The open house is Saturday. The tuition is about $5000 a year, which is kind of a lot, but we think we can afford it. Unfortunately they don't give price breaks until you have 3+ kids, and we're pretty sure we're stoppingn with 2. Our public schools are actually pretty good - its one reason we chose this community. But lately we've become concerned about the stuff that's taught in public schools - evolution, skewed interpretation of history - and that's why we're leaning towards Christian school.
I am so sorry for your meltdown. I know what you mean about hubbys criticizing you when you least need it. Plus you are sick too. I'm still praying often for you and your kids. I hope it clears up soon!
Today's a busy day at work, but at least I don't have to teach! I get a break from teaching for a couple of weeks, so hopefully I'll get caught up on work in that time.
Yes my LC is awesome. She even helped us figure out how to get Leah to take the bottle (Leah decided to refuse the bottle 1 week before I had to return to work) - my LC's best ideas worked like a charm!
DH and I talked a bit more about work for him today. He was very touched that I pray about it every day. He is trying to schedule a training for pistol repair (unfortunately my work schedule is getting in the way) and the idea of blogging is a little weird to him, but he reads blogs, so he can see the appeal.
If I wasn't a mom, I'd totally get jumpy on parental leave. But moms have lots to do with babies!
It would be awesome if DH could get a job at the school! I wonder what he could do - he doesn't have a high enough degree to teach.
We talked about the Christian school idea a lot, and even the issue about how our kids could minister to non-Christians in public school. You're right, that's so important. When my cousin started homeschooling her kids, I thought of that exact thing. But then we realized we don't want our kids taught things we don't agree with, and you have some influence over that in a private school.
So glad the kids are doing better! And I hope you have a good trip to the library and happy meals!
I'm having a rough day. I'm hormonal, tired, and stressed. I explained the hormonal thing to DH - he didn't realize how BFing really influenced my mood. I need to try to get to bed earlier tonight.
I can't believe the time went so fast! I'm already thinking about summer too - I can't wait to buy Andrew a trike or big wheels thingie - he'll love it.
I saw on FB that you had a migraine for a couple days - I prayed for you even though I didnt' have time to say so. I hope you are doing better! I used to get migraines in college - they were stress related - once I learned to deal with those sources of stress, they went away. Most people aren't so lucky.
My LC wasn't able to offer a ton of advice on the bottles, just what worked for her when her kids refused the bottle! She worked when her kids were little, and she knows I work, so bottles aren't the devil to her. Actually, when Andrew was struggling, she even said to me "worst case scenario, you pump and give him bottles". LIke I said, she's a saint.
The open house at that Christian school this weekend was AWESOME. They have amazing teachers. My friend told me there is another Christian school in our area, and though its cheaper, its further away. Not even sure we'll investigate it, because we loved that first school so much.
I gotta go., I've been spending all my "spare" time on the internet today trying to get updates on that school shooting. It made the national news so maybe you saw it. Its about 20-30 min outside of Cleveland. I live on the other side of town, so its about 1-1.5 hours from where I live. Really nice area - DH and I even talked about moving out that way (I think I mentioned that to you). So sad. When I heard about it on the radio this morning on my way to work, I cried. Those mom hormones again.
I totally know what you mean about DH being happy about having a kid. Sometimes I tease DH that I tricked him into getting pregnant with Andrew. We made the decision to TTC together, and it took 6 months to get pregnant, but it was still earlier than he expected I guess. Of course he loves Andrew!
I could understand diagonal lines beingn difficult. I also understand wanting to do something quickly and getting frustrated if it doesn't get done quickly. (I think that's true of me and I'm 35!)
Unfortunately, I didn't get much done during the naps. Leah and Andrew's naps only overlapped by 45 minutes. In that time, I caught up on email and made a batch of brownies. When Leah woke up, I put her in the swing for 10-15 minutes, and I managed to do a few little things then. It is definitely hard trying to work from home around kids naps. Sometimes I really wish I could get more help on those days, but I hate asking DH. But when I tell him I want help, he says he'll help me, but I don't want to burn him out.
You may be right about this leading to another job for DH someday. A couple of nice things about this "job" - one is that a previous client referred him. That's awesome when someone thinks so much of you that they refer you! The other is that DH didn't feel the pressure to be a salesman, he just helped them. That's much more his style.
That is so frustrating about that lady not getting back to you! It drives me nuts when people don't respond quicklky when there is a deadilne. I deal with that A LOT at work - a lot of people here are procrastinators, and I am not!
Poor little Andrew was a tiny bit better yesterday. He ate, which he didn't do much of the day before. But he mainly wanted to cuddle and sit in our laps when eating, which is fine except when I need to nurse Leah. He got upset at one point when he wanted to cuddle and I was holding Leah.
Funny story about nursing. I nurse Leah on the couch in the family room, and Andrew always sees it. Yesterday he pointed at my breasts and said "sha-chek". We couldn't figure out at first what he was saying but we think we figured it out. The Polish word for penis is "shooshachek" (that is spelled wrong but phonetically). That's the word we use for it because I hate all the English names for it. So we think he thought my nipples were that!

Wow, you really did have a good LC.

I'm SO glad you got to finally take something for your migraine.
As much as I wanted to be pregnant, I do want dh to be happy about it.

My dh was incredibly nervous about having children.
