I thought the warm and rainy part of fall was going to last longer here but it already feels like winter's around the corner. Can we rewind the year a little? ;)

There aren't any Black Friday sales here in Canada, but I can chime in on holiday shopping - I try to stay away from it! Our after-Christmas sales are too much for me and even having to shop in the week before is insane!

I don't have a lot for Christmas decorations, mostly what goes on the tree. We always have a fresh one, so that's not happening until mid-December (so it stays up until New Year's Day). I do get out the music and movies near the end of November so I can get in the spirit of the season. :)

Before the year ends, I'm hoping for a healthy family (flu shots tomorrow!) without too many treats and junk food in our bellies. ;) Seriously, though, we aren't lacking for much right now. If we can get through Ben's birthday and the holidays without overspending, we should be in a good position to start the New Year.

Blech, headache again today. I got a break for most of yesterday so that allowed us to do the last speech therapy appt of the year and our shots. I made it through preschool today (with Ben and I in the parent room for observation and parenting education/discussion) but I just wanted to get home and do nothing afterwards. Trying to take it easy now in hopes that my body will respond well!

AF seems to be worse and worse, so I might be asking the doc for a different birth control before the next month runs out (since I buy three months at a time but have a prescription till next fall). I'm just wondering if this is the wrong combo of hormones for my body and I should be taking something else. I think the mini-pill was easy on me, but I didn't like that my period wasn't returning after Ben's birth, so once he weaned I went back to my normal stuff. Now I think that was a mistake...

I know, I know, too chatty when I'm the only here. Just wanted to update that I felt better in time to make supper. Hopefully taking it easy tonight (and having half a Twix, too) will mean a great day tomorrow!

Happy Wednesday!

Hi Becca! I'm so sorry I didn't reply yet, I completely forgot G2K would be posted soon.

Questions:

Are you going to venture out on Black Friday? I think we might be. But not sure. My MIL may watch the kids so DH and I can go shopping for stuff for the kids.

Are you all ready busting out the Christmas decorations? Nope, not yet. We don't break out the Christmas decorations until the day after Thanksgiving. I really want to, though!

What is one thing you wish for before the year ends? Just want to have a great holiday season with my kids and hopefully avoid any illness! Kids apear to be nursing cold #4 of the season right now (seriously??) but neither is too bothered by it. Increasing all our vitamin D and C to help chase it off faster.

I'm so sorry that AF is so much worse now. That's very frustrating! I think it's a good idea to ask your doctor for a different birth control. I can't take birth control because it makes me totally crazy, I've tried a few different ones. I have heard a lot of women do well with the nuva ring. I never tried that one (weirds me out a little...), but I know a few people who really like it.

We might need one of the grandparents to watch the kids again this year for Christmas shopping. I enjoyed it last year but Hubby felt like we'd been gone too long from the kids, so I guess it's just not as fun as a long movie date. ;) I hope you can get your Black Friday shopping in!

Boo to the colds! I've been taking extra vitamin C since Hubby had to buy it around his laser eye surgery at the start of October. I'm hoping it'll keep most of the colds away from me so I can be healthy and tend the kids if they get sick...

Must write a note on the big calendar about that dr's appt for me and Ben's 2 year when it's time. I'm thinking I'll explain the problem to the doc and also that I've experienced similar problems back when I was taking high-hormone pills years ago, then I'll ask what pill or BC the doc recommends. If it's the mini-pill and I have no period to assure me I'm not preggo, I could just warn the clinic I'm coming in regularly to give them a sample for testing. ;)

Any prayer requests besides the cold going away?

I need to check in with my mum and see how my sisters are doing with the dramas in their lives. ;) Unfortunately, we all seem to get so busy we only call the parents and not each other. Maybe I'll get the scoop from my mum and then pester all three with email or phone call (depending on which one will get a response from each).

Becca, if they recommend the mini-pill then you could just buy hpts from ebay! haha. That's where I got all mine when we were TTC! But in all seriousness, I'm pretty sure they have low dose bc options that are not as low as the mini-pill.

I do have a prayer request, would you please pray that DH's knee feels better soon and he didn't seriously injure it? Earlier he was helping Gabe put his toothbrush back on the shelf in the bathroom. Gabe wasn't too keen on that idea and was trying to reach back and get the toothbrush and somehow in the process of Gabe fighting DH managed to smack his knee on the edge of the counter. It hurt so bad he dropped to the floor screaming (he didn't drop Gabe though, he set him on his feet first). Poor Gabe was scared to death and DH feels awful for scaring him. Gabe thought DH was mad at him. DH was screaming so loudly my first thought was that he'd fallen and dislocated his knee. But he barely has a mark, he has no idea why it hurt so bad. That knee has been giving him trouble off and on (like it hurts and it will randomly go out on him when he's walking). He had an x-ray done and everything looks normal in there so we don't know what's going on with it.

Gabe has developed a cough on top of the snotty nose. It doesn't seem to bother him too much, my biggest problem is getting him to rest and not agrivate the cough. Once he starts bouncing around the house like normal he coughs harder. He also is hardly eating and that always stresses me out. Even though I know it's normal to not eat much when we don't feel well, it's always a big deal to me when Gabe doesn't eat much because we have such a hard time with his eating habits as it is. Him and Elena were sooooo clingy today too, more than normal, which I'm sure is due to their colds. Plus I think Elena is starting to work on her next set of molars. Ohhh yay. ;)

Do you have any specific prayer requests?

Thanks for the pill info. I obviously don't know as much as I should about the topic. ;)

Hubby has a recurring knee problem from being on hard flooring while playing with the kids - we have laminate in most of the house and one day his knee just couldn't take it anymore and it was bad for a while. I believe he gets some relief if he's careful about it and rests it, then it's good for some time. I'm praying your hubby's pain just goes away and never comes back!

Do you have any Pedialyte to make sure Gabe's getting nutrients while the cold is bothering his appetite? Only used it once with Tim but I always think of it as an option if the boys aren't feeling well.

Ben might be teething too. Boo. Other than that, good travel for an aunt and uncle is on my mind - their car broke down partway through a trip here. And Hubby's leaving on Sunday for a few days because of work so that'll be an interesting change around here!

*Yawn* I should probably get ready for sleep and hope Ben just sleeps through the night already...

Becca, thanks for the prayers! DH's knee is feeling much better. It still hurts but he's not limping around on it anymore. He's getting a sore throat/cold now. He was joking with me that he just can't catch a break!

Thanks for the pedialyte suggestion, I wish Gabe would drink it but he won't. He won't drink any juice either. It's water, milk (flavoried with a bit of chocolate carnation breakfast) or pediassure. Picky kid! ;) He seems to be feeling a bit better, he ate okay today. Not like...great...but...normal for him. He rarely eats great lol.

Will be praying for Ben's teething to not be too rough. Teething is just so hard! Also praying for good travel for your aunt and uncle. Will be praying while your hubby is gone, both for a safe trip and for it to not be too crazy at home with him gone.

I feel really bad for Gabe, he had a rough night.

I hate when one of us goes from one kind of ailment to another. It's just not fair! (Like earlier this year when I had a cold and AF at the same time. Ugh.)

Hope Gabe's eating even better now and doesn't have any lasting effects from the bump on his noggin. Tim's a picky drinker lately, usually refuses juice and just wants water or strawberry milk. And we also see our fair share of bumps and bruises these days, usually more scary for the kids than damaging or worrying for us.

Ben's been eating more the past few days so we wonder if he's in a growth spurt. He's also grumpier and tonight he came up to me holding his mouth and half-screaming so I'm more sure of my guess about teething. I gave him some Tylenol and I think that helped. Should keep it handy in case we need it overnight 'cause teething and a growth spurt could be a difficult combo

I haven't heard from my mum about her sister arriving yet, but I should be sending an email anyway so I can remind her to call or email with news. :)

Hubby is meeting his co-worker on Sunday around noon for the drive to the coast. Hopefully we'll have a good Saturday night together and a partially lazy Sunday morning. ;) I'm anticipating the days feeling a bit long without Hubby around to entertain and help discipline in the normal hours he's around, but at the same time, I might get away with slacking off in the cooking department (breakfast and lunch food for dinners) and also having more movie time since I'll save TV shows till Hubby's back. It'll be interesting, anyway!

Time to head to bed and hope Ben sleeps all the way through this time. Otherwise I'll need a nap!
