alex- i will be praying for your marriage and dd's teething. im sorry i dont have advice, my baby is only 3.5 months.
colleen- praying for dh's job!
odin is doing MUCH better with naps. his first nap is about 2 hours, then he takes a few hour long naps later on. at night he is still waking after only 4 hours, occasionally he will do 7 or 8. it just varies with the night, not sure what to do! money is sooo tight right now and i feel like we are doing something wrong. budgeting is hard b/c dh doesnt make the same amount every month, and we arent saving at all. in fact we have a little credit card debt and its getting worse, would like to pay those off! i think we just need to get a handle on our finances right now, and do what God wants us to with what little we have. not sure where to start!
i'm sorry about the teething - that's always so tiring! i don't have any great advice other than the normal stuff - teethers and stuff. sometimes i give dd tylenol right before bed, and that helps a little. usually the really bad part of teething is only a couple days (at least for us), so hopefully it'll be over soon for a little while.
thanks for the prayers - things are going well here. dh is working a lot of hours, so you could pray for his stamina and that things will get a little easier at work. he loves this job, it's just a lot of time.
alex, your marriage is in my prayers - i hope you and dh are able to work on it, although it must be hard with him far away. whitney, you're still in my prayers too. is odin sleeping better?
i hope the trip went well!
pumping is going sooo much better, all of
i read your other post too about him sleeping - he may just be going through a growth spurt, but i'll be praying it's a really really quick one!!
thanks for the prayers - she's usually great on trips, and 1/2 of it should be after bedtime, so that's good. we went to va beach (from western ny) when she was 9 mo, and she was a champ! thanks!
i have been thinking about pumping while feeding, not sure if i can do it...but i might try it! i let down almost right away when odin is eating, but with a pump it takes awhile...he sometimes sleeps a long stretch..used to do 7 or more hours for his first stretch, now its like 5 hours one night, 7 the next, 4 the next, 7 again...i dont get it, lol. i used to be more full after his long stretch, but not anymore which makes me worry im not producing enough.
will pray for your trip! we did a long trip when odin was a newborn, i cant imagine doing it now, he isnt as good about being in the car anymore. i hope layla is better about it
hey, whitney, i feel like i'm giving you advice all over, so please shut me up if i'm annoying. i just wanted to share something from my ped, because i HATED pumping! i had to go back to work unexpectedly when layla was 3 months, and i only bf for about 2 more months (only partially) before we went to formula. pumping just wasn't doing it for me. anyway.... i don't know if odin sleeps a long stretch at night yet, but if he does, you're probably more full first thing in the morning. if you can be coordinated enough, when you put him on one side, try to pump on the other side. that way, your milk will let down more, so you'll get more. also, you're more full and he will get what the pump can't, so he should still get enough to eat. also, you'll probably start producing a little more. you can always feed him again sooner if needed. anyway, it's a little tricky the first couple times, but it worked for me when i had to do it.
on the praying side of things... thanks for keeping dh and i in your prayers. it's hard because lately, he doesn't come home from work till almost layla's bedtime, then he goes to bed about 1 1/2 hrs later because he has to get up so early. then on wed and sun nights, he helps with teens at church. i'm hoping we can start to schedule a regular date night. i think that would be so good. we're traveling this weekend to my in-laws, so if you could just keep us in your prayers. we haven't gone a long distance w/ layla in a while, so i hope she does ok in the car. we still have her rf, but i think we're going to turn her around for the trip so that she'll have more things to look at, and we can reach her better. i'll be praying for you as you continue to learn new mommy things, and that you can feel less stressed and focus on enjoying your little boy, which is hard sometimes.
alex - you're still in my prayers as well. how are you?
colleen- i will pray that life settles down and you can have some couple time.
well, again, thanks for your prayers! layla and i went back to the ped on friday, and her ears were clear! praise God! i was fully expecting her to have a full-blown double ear infection. i'm so glad we waited it out. plus, she didn't get her flu shot because i wanted the thimerisol-free kind, and it wasn't in yet, so we will have to go back soon. also, her 1 year bloodwork (lead and anemia) came back normal. so, thank you for praying, and life is back to normal, medically. hmmm, i think mostly right now, i could just use prayers for my little family to settle into life. dh recently got a job that puts us in a much more comfortable place, but it feels like it's just out of reach. he hasn't started getting his normal paychecks yet, and we're both just starting to get into our new routines, so just prayers that we can finally get into our new way of life. i'm mostly at home now, but dh is working a lot, and we've both volunteered to help w/ youth group at church, plus i'm teaching preschool. so, it almost feels like we're busier than when we both worked full-time. we need to find regular "couple time." this is my favorite time of year, and i'm really hoping i can just relax and enjoy it. financial issues and a miscarriage in 2005 have prevented that for the last couple years. God is truly blessing us, and i want to be grateful and use it appropriately, but also enjoy it. anyway, i'm rambling. hopefully you understand.
whitney, i don't want to give advice if you don't want it, but i just had a couple thoughts about odin. are you being sure to burp him enough? if he's pulling off crying, that could be part of it. also, will he not even go to the other side, or just that side? like is he totally refusing to eat more? sometimes layla would pull off crying when one side was empty. sorry if those seem obvious, but i know how it is with a new baby - you get in a fog sometimes. i personally had no idea what i was doing breastfeeding. i mean, i think i did ok, but i'll be doing it differently next time! anyway, i'm praying for you, and i hope things get easier!
