Tantrum Tactics?

I posted this over on the AP board but thought I'd try over here too. :smileyhappy:

I was wondering if anyone had some AP-friendly (i.e. please don't suggest spanking!) tactics for calming down tantrums? Usually, I'm pretty good at catching them before they get full-blown but if I miss the warning signs and she goes into "code-red" full on meltdown board, it's like there's no reaching her at all.

Help!

Luckily, Kev never has been into throwing tantrums. But when he did, and he got going there was no stopping him.  Literally, he would not even hear me talking to him.  I needed a way to get his attention.  So I (this sounds bad) would spray him in the face with water from a spray bottle. It never hurt him, even though he said I got water in his eyes.  But once I got his attention, I was able to deal with the problem.   I am not sure if that is what you are talking about or not.
