I'll admit.... I've never watched it, but TEEN MOM seems to be out of control...they are on the cover of mags, leading stories on the news... ENOUGH already.

It also really bugs me you can't have even local channels on during regular hours without seeing R rated movie ads - there are some horror movie ads out there that are seriously creepy, kids don't need to see those images! In general we never watch tv with the kids around.

I had heard some of the PAL mommies complaining about the "16 & pregnant" show last year so I watched - OMG what a trainwreck, you just feel for those babies! I can see how it hits those of us who have tried so hard just to have ours.

I've seen a couple Teen Mom episodes. I personally don't think MTV glamorizes teen pregnancy because my take from the show is what a nightmare, most of the girls have really screwed up their lives. But I think maybe to teens ANYTHING on MTV is cool, so in that sense just putting these people on a show (& now they're "famous) makes it appealing to teens. I cannot believe she is getting that much $ for the show!!! Insane. Oh I did see part of the episode where she was beating on her baby daddy & thought "uh she is not a fit mother!".

Wenz... I remember when MTV started too. ;) (I was all about sitting down and waiting for the new Duran Duran video to be played!!) Anywho... yes, I think they have gone too far with this Teen Mom thing. We all know about the town in the NE where those girls made a pact to get pregnant. It's totally because of the glamorizing shows about pregnancy like this show. (the good and the bad... I don't think the girls really care!)

I remember going to my grandparent's house for weekends and watching music videos on MTV after they'd go to bed!! As far as I can tell they only do videos overnight now, it's totally changed. I think people just want to go on the reality shows to create drama...

ITA! I miss the days of videos and some of them seemed risky enough!

Here's a look at the show "Skins" http://www.ivillage.com/skins-are-our-teens-really-doing-stuff/6-a-316055

I'm wondering if these shows could be used as points to start a discussion with your kids but I'm thinking that I just enjoyed Eight is Enough or Full House or whatever, I didn't want it to be a life lesson with my parents.

Have you watched these shows? Do they have some redeeming value?

I haven't see that show and won't be watching. I don't watch any of the reality shows. This world is so messed up and will only get worse. I am so afraid for my kids. Just last night before the pro bowl they had a music group playing and there were girls "dancing" if front of them. They looked more like stripper moves to me, I was very upset and had to turn it off because my almost 8 yr old son was watching. It just makes me sick, and people wonder why teens are so messed up these days. DH and I always say we miss the Silver Spoons/Facts of Life days... I also have heard that with all this "sexting" the teens do that they will be ruined for life, never having a healthy sex life in their future. They will have already "seen it all" and will be bored with a normal sexual relationship as adults. It makes sense, it needs to stop.
Kari- I remember Saturday Night Videos!!! LOL!
