Well, I think it's safe to say that my kids are in the process of turning out okay: moral, kind, productive members of society (or on their way) and all this without dogma! When I last posted my kids (ds and dd) were 8 and 5. They are now 21 and 18, both in college, both studying hard (music teacher and english/communications).

At the time we lived in Pennsylvania (originally from Long Island and it was a bit of a culture shock) and we were surrounded by a lot of fundamentalists/conservative Christians and this board was a life line! After moving to New Jersey in late 2000 we joined a Unitarian Universalist fellowship and found many like-minded people. Joining a UU fellowhsip was one of the best parenting decisions dh and I made. No dogma, but lots of support and moral guidance to be good human beings because it's the right thing to do and society works better that way. Even though we don't believe in a god we can still feel part of something larger than ourselves.

I recognized a couple of names: Guili and Turtletime. I think I used to post as Louan1 or something like that. I was wondering if Buddharain or Valjean were still around but I didn't see them.

Happy atheist/agnostic parenting!

Hi and welcome back. Not a lot of people still post here. It's a slow board but I still read it. I also joined a UU church several years ago. I don't attend anymore but, I did like it while I was there. It was more important to me when my kids were younger and mine are now almost 23, 20 and almost 18.

Hi Guili, thanks. It's good to be bakc. I looked at the dates of posts and see what you mean. There was a man who used to post here too but I can't remember his name. Very hardcore atheist. I also seem to remember that Parents Place and iVillage had two separate atheist/agnostic parenting boards, but I could be mistaken. Time flies.
