It makes sense. I think that many of us who were raised in a religion, come to atheism after thinking a lot about religion and reasoning out that it just can't be true. That's how it was for me. I was raised RC and as we were preparing for confirmation, we were encouraged to keep a diary about our feelings towards the faith. We didn't have to hand it in so being the good student that I was, I took the assignment to heart and reasoned out that it was all a crock of sh**. Somehow, I don't think that was what they wanted me to think but, that's exactly what happened. I got confirmed anyway b/c I was afraid to tell my mom. I knew she would be really mad and disappointed.
I've always said that I don't understand how smart ppl can be religious. It's like they think with 2 different parts of their brain. I guess this theory makes a lot of sense. They must use intuitive thinking for religion and rational thinking for everything else.
