I enjoy watching the shows on ABC.
It's not just ABC.

I have to admit I don't know the show Meagan's talking about but agree iwth all of you, there is no kid friendly programming out there.
Funny you should post about that show.
For a long time, our home was cable-free.
I HATE the ED commercials.
I love FlashForward.
Personally, I wouldn't care if the characters are gay or straight. It's the sexual content that matters to me, but only to a point. I don't want my kids witnessing promiscuity and adult nudity at their ages.
What matters much MORE to me, though, is the violence and destruction. It is unbelievable. You can't even watch a car commercial without something being destroyed, it seems. There is sooooo much violence in almost every show!! I feel that is actually much more harmful to my kids than witnessing kissing between any gender. They see my husband and I kiss all the time. There's nothing wrong with kissing. But there is something wrong with someone with an AK-47 making a bloodbath of all human life in their path. I don't need my kids seeing that!
I had to laugh at Karen's mention of the Viagra/Levitra/Cialis commercials. We were JUST talking about that the other day. We've been watching the baseball play-offs, and now the World Series. It seems every third commercial is a pharma commercial for some drug to help ED. My sons are watching with us, so they've been thoroughly exposed to these (And have never said a word, but I gotta wonder what they're thinking). After about the 4th one the other day, my husband looked at me, rolled his eyes and said "Do they realize how many kids are tuned in here? I wonder how much Pfizer is paying to put these on every 10 minutes." The beer commercials are bad enough, and then the car commercials with men driving recklessly on winding mountain roads at a high speed, as if that's the way I want my sons to think one should drive! But the worst is the commercial for Extenz. I don't know if they show this outside our area, but it's been on several times during primetime recently, and I really think it is pretty inappropriate. It's a commercial for some pill (a gimmick, I'm sure) that enhances "male size." They make it very clear what it's used for, complete with the sultry female spokeswoman. The first time it came on in front of my 6 year-old daughters, I just cringed and held my breath!! I really cannot imagine an ad like that having been on TV when I was a kid!
I gave up on most evening television years ago. The kids watch PBS after school, and do homework in the evenings. We don't have cable. We now get a station that shows old stuff, so they've seen Bonanza, Little Rascals (that cracked them up!), Little House on the Prairie, Knightrider -- that kind of stuff. We also get a cartoon channel that shows some really nice cartoons -- Babar, Tales from the Book of Virtues, and a bunch of Canadian cartoons. I don't watch shows that I'd like to watch, because I don't want the kids watching.
Here's what we watch regularly as a family: Antiques Roadshow, NOVA, Extreme Home Makeover, and America's Funniest Videos.
I personally don't care if characters are straight or gay.
