Burying the ALLELUIA

Does anyone "bury the Alleluia" with their kids on Ash Wednesday? I know I've heard of this custom in other places besides my ILs! My DH grew up doing it in his family, and we have never really done it, but I'm thinking of doing it this year. My boys will be home from school in a little while, so I might have them and the girls sit down with construction paper, write (or paste) the words ALLELUIA, and then decorate the paper with all kinds of things (sparkles, pipe cleaner, etc). Then we'll "bury" it somewhere in the house tomorrow (Probably the attic) and take it out on Easter for part of the Easter dinner centerpiece.
It's possible that this was just a custom in my husband's family, or some kind of ethnic regional Italian thing, but I just KNOW I've heard of burying the Alleluia on Ash Wednesday in places before. Not having been raised Catholic, I'm wondering if any of you have heard of this or do it yourselves (Aside from Monica), or if your churches do it.
