Well, our midnight mass is at 10pm again... (please refer to last years rant on the subject) So we will go to that, and come home and open gifts and eat. and eat.... and eat. It is my husbands family tradition.... the party after Mass thing. In his home Santa arrived when they were at Mass. Because my family tradition was the Christmas Day celebration, in my home Santa comes over night and there are more gifts in the morning along with the Stockings.
Years ago I started a tradition of a cookie decorating party with my friends kids. My girls ask about doing it every year but I just cring b/c each of them would want to invite their friends. The last time I did it, there was 13 kids. But they were 5 and under! Now they would be 9 and under!!
We'll go to the 5 p.m. children's Mass on Christmas eve. (Our church here has a potluck after, so quick easy dinner and clean up for me). We'll then allow the children to open one gift and put out cookies for Santa (and carrots for the reindeer) before bed. Santa comes overnight and brings the kids one large present each. The next day, we eat brunch with a homemade coffee cake--DD asks for that every year and then have dinner around 4.
A homemade coffee cake sounds really good. I'll bet the house smells wonderful on Christmas morning! That sounds like a good idea to try. Last year, we did a breakfast casserole for Christmas morning.
