Dinner with a different bishop!

Some of you may remember that a few months ago I had dinner with our auxiliary bishop. Last night, I had dinner with a bishop from Uganda! He's here for missionary Sunday, and wanted to meet with our twinning committee, since our sister parish is in his diocese.

He had an interesting solution to our priest shortage. He thinks if all Catholic families had at least 4 children, there would be more priests, because we'd all be more willing to encourage vocations. He says if you only have 1-2 kids, it is hard to give them up to religious life.

When you have dinner with the pope, give me a call, eh?

Seriously, your dinner sounds like a great experience.

Polly, a few years back we went to a mass celebrated by a cardinal from Uganda. His name was Cardinal Arinze and this was before Pope Jon Paul died, some thought he was in line for the papacy. It was a wonderful experience. How neat that you got to go to this.

Jeanne, when I was growing up, my parents were very good friends with a priest and we had him over for dinner regularly. My brothers were both altar servers too. He used to tease us kids and ask which one of us would be nuns or priests. None of us turned out to be, even though I'm sure it was one of my mother's secret hopes. We did all turn out very devout Catholic though, so she went right somewhere.

;o)
