Easter Mass

Hi! I am one of the posters from the now defunct AOL board. I've been lurking, and would like to join if you'll have me. I'm a Catholic, converted in 1992 from the Methodist faith. I like to say God called me to the Catholic faith, and gave me a husband as well. My dh is a cradle Catholic, and gently introduced me to the faith when I met him.

My main reason to post is the Mass today. It was beautiful, I must say, just kind of strange. First of all, a dear friend of ours, Mr. Tom, was back at church. We had not seen him for almost a year; he had a massive heart attack last summer. He looks weaker, but is still Mr. Tom. It was so nice to see him again!

The church was packed, and we had to stand in the vestibule. They have a screen up so we can still see what is going on at the altar. Anyway, it was time for the Eucharistic ministers to go up, and I found my way to the altar. Then when Father handed out the vessels, he didn't have one for me. It was really awkward. We had the same number as usual, so I guess he just made a mistake. I quietly bowed out after receiving.

Then the people in the vestibule lined up for Communion. There were a couple of families with little girls in fancy Easter dresses. The dads hoisted the girls on their shoulders, and other family members commenced taking pictures and cutting up. They were just at the doors leading from the vestibule into the sanctuary. I don't know, maybe I'm just old and stuff, but it struck me as inappropriate at that time.

Please pray for my dd's dear friend Morgan, she is in the hospital recovering from an appendectomy. Poor kid. Thanks so much!
Sorry I wrote a book, I'll try to rein in my typers in the future.

Thank you for your prayers, Roz. They are greatly appreciated.

It's okay about the EM mix up, just kinda threw me when Father handed me the cup without the purificator, then took it back. Like, hmmmmm... I won't hold it against him, as someone mentioned, Father is probably exhausted after all the Masses this week.

I like your idea of signing up for stations. That might work well. Our host ministers stand in the back facing altar, and our cup ministers stand on the sides so Father knows who is who.

I'm glad to hear you had a nice time at the Saturday vigil Mass. We were going to go, but dd wanted to go see Morgan in the hospital. Ds told me he thought Jesus would understand.

Enjoy Easter dinner with your family! We had dinner here, but no coloring or hiding eggs for the first time. Happy Easter!!

Hi Cheri and Karen and Roz! I attended the Vigil and the 10 AM mass on Sunday.

I didn't see any cutting up but I have in the past. I wonder what comes over ppl sometimes. I think maybe they feel disconnected when the church is crowded or they are w/ kids that ae not used to going to church every week.

The mix up with EMC service does sound akward...it must have just been one of those mix ups that leaves you w/ a bad feeling even if no slight was intended. Sorry.

I sing w/ the choir and my two oldest children were serving. I had to be there at 6:30, to practice for any changes our Pastor may have made. Also it was a triligual mass, eng, portugese and spanish so we had to fine tune some of the songs that were in the other languages. I speak spanish but not portugese(working on it;P) Anyhow, with a start time of 8pm and a baptism and confirmation we were in for a long night. I so enjoyed it. It was beautiful and well organized. I could see it all very well since we sing from the balcony. I didn't realize how late it was until

The last couple of years we have gone to the Easter Vigil Mass, but this year we went at 8 AM on Easter. My 8 year old was singing in the choir during that Mass.

Hi Cheri, welcome to our board! I'm Ruth (there's another Ruth here too plus we found out some other Ruth's from your AOL board too ;-)).

My dh and I sing in the choir and so sang for the entire Triduum. Holy Thursday was quite memorable as we had Francis Cardinal Arinze celebrating the Mass that night. I should have a photo by tomorrow morning that I'll put on my parish website to share - I'm also parish web person.

We sang at the Vigil and as usual needed to be there early at 6 pm
