Gift for baptism.....

My cousin's dd (3mos) is getting baptized this Sunday. This will be the first baptism I've attended in many years. Should I bring a gift? What sort of gift is appropriate? Thanks

You have plenty of choices: a baby's Bible, a crucifix, a savings bond or cash are some traditional ones. However, anything is o.k. -- a piggy bank, a baby blanket, an outfit, a toy -- you get the picture. If you'd like to get something religious, stop by a Catholic bookstore for some ideas.

Of course, gifts aren't required -- although around here at least, they're pretty standard.

My son was baptized a couple of weeks ago, and it was about 50/50 whether people brought gifts. The gifts we did receive included some non-religious gifts like stuffed animals and cash, and then religious gifts like a child's crucifix, a rosary, and a couple of baby bibles. My favorite is the "Catholic Baby Blessings Bible". It has a colorful, soft cover with some neat textures on it, and each story includes a short prayer appropriate to the story. I'd definitely recommend it.

There are a lot of really neat things out there. I like to stop by my Catholic bookstore for gifts. So far, I've found some really beautiful porcelin crosses and a small jewelry box with a rosary (different colored boxes for each birth month). Also, my dd's godmother gave my dd a cross necklace. She had it blessed and I plan on giving it to her to wear when she receives more Sacraments.
