Sign-ups for our religious education is this week. Ian is still too young. I think it officially begins for first grade, though he does get a bit of it each week in his kindergarten class. Our neighbor signed up her daughters yesterday, and their text books are amazing! They're so well written and easy to understand. My neighbor said that last year the books weren't nearly this good. Her daughters will go once a week for about a half hour.

I'm doing homestudy with my 10yo son. We started today, though I think RE started last week. I've never taught classes, but I have done homestudy in the past with my DDs.

I was happy with our first lesson. We're using the "Blest Are We" series, and they have a special guide for homestudying parents. I've never felt like my DS got much out of RE, and I wanted to be in a position to make him think more and think harder about God, and to also be able to demonstrate more about what we as a family believe and how I personally live out my faith.

One nice thing that happened at church this morning is that the priest gave a blessing first to catechists, and then to parents. He invited the parents to stand for the blessing, and I was quite surprised that DH stood. He's agnostic and while he attends mass with us, he normally excuses himself from participation. That was a pleasant surprise.
