DS, Daniel, was baptised today...But after Mass, not during our intended Mass Time! The Mass started - Usually, during a Baptism here, The Priest comes down after the opening prayer and asks what we are asking of the Church and who it is we want baptised etc etc. I thought something was up when he didn't do that. Well, after the Homily, still no motion. Then, at Peace, the Priest came down shook our hands, and I kind of reminded him about the Baptism???!!! Uh, He forgot he said! What??!! I have family in from out of town for this blessed event and he forgot??!! He said it would be done privately after Mass and we left it at that! ARGG I have two other Children. That has NEVER happened b4 nor have I seen anything like that happen! This Baptism has been on our Church Calendar since our lil Daniel was born last December. In fact, I finalized the names and spelling this past week for the Baptismal Certificate too. He just forgot!! I will be OK tomorrow but I am still fueling over this....

A Bit Mad Tonight...Thanks for Reading

Hugs Jeanne. Such a beautiful important day, months of planning, friends and family ready to be a party to the baptism and the priest forgot. Hullo! You have every right to be disappointed and flat out angry. Those are normal reactions and will fade in the fullness of time.

Although the baptism occurred after the Mass, I hope it was every bit as fulfilling and joyful as little Daniel's siblings' baptisms were for you and your family. You have so many blessings and so much to be thankful for. How lucky you are!

Best wishes Jeanne.

I'm sorry to hear this. Something like it has happened to me with BOW for RCIA. There we sat as a group waiting for FR. to dismiss us but he sailed right by it. I found out later that someone had "caught Fr." just before Mass and landed a bomb shell about some church business. That was what he had on his mind at the time. People should not try to bring church business to the priests before or between Masses. This may have been the case, again I'm sorry. I would suggest that you (after you calm down) go and see him and try and understand why he messed up. Don't go there to blast him but to understand.

I'm so sorry it didn't go as expected. At the church where all of my kids were baptised, the Baptism was done after the 12:30 Mass so they were all done privately (wiat, with my first I think we had the option but my dh would never get up before everyone, then we got a new administrator)

Anyway, it's not really if it's front of everyone or just with the godparents there, it's about welcoming the child into the faith. {{HUGS}}

Jeanne, how disappointing it must have been to have Father forget your son's baptism. I take it there is no baptism coordinator in your parish running around after Father reminding him. At our parish, the baptism coordinator (me ;-)) is ALWAYS reminding the pastor of whichever current baptisms are coming up. And I attend just about all of the baptisms as well, so there's little chance he'll forget. Our baptisms are usually done outside of Mass unless a family specifically requests to have it done during Mass. I don't know about your parish, but ours is a large very active one of about 1800 families and we have only the pastor and one other Monsignor (who doesn't do any of the baptisms) in residence. So things get pretty hectic with lots of babies being baptized in addition to many other parish goings on. He always tells me he needs all the reminders he can get.
