marriage validity question

Is this a valid marriage?:

Man and woman are 67 years old widower/widow. Both are baptized Christians practicing the Lutheran faith and the Reformed Church faith respectively.

Any ideas? Know where I can go for info? My bet is that it is not valid based on their ages because they knowingly cannot have children.

Of course it is a valid and Sacramental Marriage. The ability to have children is not a requirement for a valid Marriage.

what about "openess to life" and all that? how can two older people (ok, the woman at any rate) who can no longer have children be "open to life" when they're past child-bearing age? one of the purposes of marriage (children et al) is knowingly impossible and certainly not wanted at the age of 67.

comments, please, br. rich? thanks

Being past childbearing age is not an impediment to marriage.

Willingness to accept children is different than inability to have them. The only requirement of canon law in this regard is that conception not be prevented artificially and that both persons have the physical and mental ability to have normal sexual relations. Otherwise infertile couples would be bared from Marriage.

Okay, so does that mean a woman of childbearing age who has had her tubes tied or is on hormonal birth control would be ineligable for a valid marriage if the marriage were to take place after the procedure? Just curious.

Yes it could be used as grounds to determine the Marriage invalid. It would involve other factors and is not taken alone.
