Does anyone know which religion normally uses this version of Bible? My son received one as a gift for his Baptism? I know all Bibles are not alike, however is this one ok for someone growing up in the Catholic faith?

Thanks

Hi

My ILs use the King James version. They are either Southern Baptist, Assembly of God or nondenominational born again Christian, depending on who and when you ask. The King James version has fewer "books".

I prefer the New American Bible

I would either pass it on to someone who is Protestant or just pitch it. It does not contain all of the Books which Catholic bibles have. New American is a good version, we have that in our house and my mother has a few other older bibles.

Side note to this: my sister had her fiance come to Mass with us once and one of the readings was from one of the books of Macabees. Her fiance had no clue about the reading because he was raised on the KJV and it does not contain those two books. She mentioned him saying something about it and I explained to her that the bibles he's always read are missing those books, among a few others.
