A nice Mass surprise

I had a nice surprise this weekend. We were camping, so we went to the parish near the campsite, and the pastor was a priest who had given me my first communion nearly 35 years ago!

It seemed so fitting, given that the readings were about the Eucharist. After Mass, I introduced him to my family and mentioned my first communion, and he remembered it! (It was at my house, and a real family affair, so I'm not completely surprised that he remembered it, but still...)

Then I posted it on Facebook, and people I went to grade school with are now all sharing memories of our childhood parish and school. The whole thing renewed my appreciation for many connections we make through our wonderful faith that subtly influence us our whole lives.

I'm still in a sappy mood about it!

LOL! Karen, at Eddie's first communion meeting, they had the adults break into small groups to discuss what they remembered about their own FC. Everyone remembered the clothes: itchy, pretty, uncomfortable, white shoes, veil, first suit, first tie, etc.

The point they wanted to make was that we needed to try to make it more memorable than just clothes for our kids. I ruined the exercise for our group, because I remembered a lot. It was at my home, and I remember the priest arriving with a Mass kit. My brother was baptized at the same Mass. My sisters made big banners for both of us. My brothers were acolytes. A

So, everyone you went to school with is familiar with him too?

It was a Catholic grade school, so if they went to the school while he was a priest at the parish, they knew him. Back then we had 3 priests! I can't even imagine that now.

What a cool surprise, Polly! That is so nice that he remembered you, and it's even better that this experience triggered such a great conversation and sharing of memories on FB. So, everyone you went to school with is familiar with him too?
