We haven't had a DYK thread in a while. I thought it would be fun to start one up for November. :)

DYK...

This week is Veterans Day, but Ian doesn't have off school? I seem to remember getting Veterans Day off, but I could be wrong.

I went to the ER early early Sunday morning (2AM-ish) for an ear infection. Yes...an ear infection. I have no idea how I got one of those. The last time I had one had to have been when I was about four years old. Yikes, I have a new appreciation for any child who suffers from an ear infection. I forgot how much they hurt. It started Friday and got bad on Saturday. My plan was to try to make it until Monday to go see the doctor, but apparently I am a wimp. It's better today, though.

Ian asked me over the weekend when he'd be going back to St. Pats for school. Of course, when I asked him why all he could tell me is that he just likes it better there.

I wonder why Lucy keeps taking her pants off. Lately, this kid doesn't like pants or socks, and she took her diaper off yesterday. Plus, she has such a sassy little attitude! Ian was not like this at all.

DYK my ear doesn't hurt today? It still feels like someone shoved a ball of cotton way up my ear, but at least I am no longer knocked on my rear end? The ER doc gave me some numbing drops for the pain, but it was sticky and messy so I just opted for Tylenol instead. I got amoxicillin in pill form, but if I was thinking I would have requested the shot. I took the shot when I had mastitis and started feeling better in about 12 hours vs. the 48 it seemed to take with these pills.

DYK I totally agree about Thanksgiving! Where did the year go? But I am very excited to get my Advent wreath out. I wound up buying one last year, and it's very pretty. I need to check out the candle situation, but I'm pretty sure I have all that we'll need.

DYK that's so great you're almost done with your Christmas shopping? I started. I have the kids done. Ian and Lucy are getting a Doug & Melissa tree house to share (it was yesterday's kid's woot of the day). Ian will be getting a Razor Spark scooter, and Lucy will be getting a balance bike. Of course, there are books and clothes as well.

DYK I seriously don't think those DSi's ever go on sale! I might have seen them for like $10 less for Black Friday, but that's hardly worth getting out in that mess just for $10. Legos are awesome too! That's what I'm asking for when anyone asks about the kids. Ian has one basic box plus two or three Star Wars kits (which are really too old for him to do alone). It's amazing how fast you can use up Legos! Those are things that are rarely on sale too. I seem to remember Amazon having a decent deal on plastic bags full of basic Legos.

DYK I'm glad your priest has returned. Muscle problems are awful, so I'm happy he's feeling better.

DYK I'm making some pretzel bread right now? I do the mixing in the bread machine, then I have to do the rest by hand since it has to be dunked in baking soda water, sprinkled with kosher salt, and brushed with butter. It's DH's favorite, and the two loaves it yields don't last long in this house!

DYK I hope others jump in too?

DYK my Advent Wreath is still on the table from last year?

DYK I had great plans to use it during Lent, etc, but those plans never materialized?

DYK right now it is doing duty as a mail holder?

DYK Legos are awesome toys?

DYK Bernard has used Legos for 3 years running to make his "3-D model" for Social Studies projects?

DYK 6th grade was the Gutenberg printing press and that one was awesome?

I haven't even started Christmas shopping either yet, Karen

I have had a h*ll of a past 2 weeks!! Lots of stuff due for school, and a headache that comes and goes each day, which has me a bit worried

It is just not normal to have a headache on and off every day for 2 whole weeks!

Granted, I'm sleep-deprived, but still. . .

Matthew is awesome with Leggo creations, too

I think that takes a certain kind of brain (math-y)

My SIL is on her way over with homemade pizzas for us for dinner! Yummy!

I'm glad to see a DYK so we can have more "conversation" on here

I hope everyone has a great weekend! I am *literally* thanking God that it is Friday!! WHEW!

DYK that I had grand plans of crocheting or knitting small gifts for people, but instead they're getting very fattening cookies, and I'll probably buy a coffee samples to go with the cookies?

that I plan to keep gift wrapping supplies in my van and wrap the gifts before I get them home so I can hide them without the kids being able to peek at them quite so easily?

that I think I'll use a different color ribbon to designate which child's gifts they are?

that I love playing these kinds of games with my kids, but they also bring it on themselves by snooping in my room?

that I have a certain item for the boys that I want to give them but it's not all that cheap?

that ds15 told me he wants 2 things - a guitar and a camera?

that dd7 has a list of about 12 things she wants?

that ds16 hasn't told me what he wants yet?

that DH wants a PS3 and I'm rolling my eyes, because I still have not gotten a laptop? lol

that I have done some shopping but nothing like I wanted to have done by now?

that over the summer, I got some things on clearance at Target specifically for the angel tree at church?

that I did find E a "Baby's 1st Christmas" ornament that is a carousel horse, the same concept as the older 3 kids' ornaments?

that I give my kids a new ornament each year and the plan is that as they fly the nest and set up house, their ornaments will go with them?

that last year I sorted the ornaments by whose they were in preparation for the teenagers' departures?

DYK we went to see the man in red this afternoon?

DYK the boy chose his own outfit and opted for the "sweet and nerdly look," which I absolutely love?!

DYK the girl was sooooo excited at the "idea"?

DYK she totally lost it when I tried to hand her over?

DYK I was not planning to be in the picture, but I didn't have any other choice?

DYK I hope Andrew had a great birthday.

DYK mine was on the 19th, and on the 20th I had a girls' night out. We went out for dinner, drinks, and then a movie.

DYK that is awesome about 13YO making the honor role, Lisa! I'd be proud too!!

DYK I am pretty jealous that you can crochet. I wish I knew how. I have all the stuff to get started knitting, but I still haven't gotten around to trying yet. I keep planning on giving it a try, but life just keeps getting in the way. I need to just sit down and do it. what kind of crafts will you be doing for the teachers?

DYK I have to come up with a teacher gift idea as well as a gift for Ian's Tae Kwon Do instructor. He is awesome, and Ian has a blast during each class.

DYK, Trish, fattening cookies and coffee samples sound wonderful!

DYK that's funny about the snooping kids. Mine aren't snoopers yet, but I know my time will come.

DYK your DD7 sounds like my DS5. I lost count of all the stuff he wants. I think most of it is just junk, and he just wants it to want it. He wasn't like this until he started at public school.

DYK I don't think I can totally blame the school because I know part of it is his age, BUT at the Catholic school they were not allowed to bring toys, gadgets, or anything besides themselves to school.

DYK....GRRRRR!
