Paying for College

I'm new to the boards. I'm a practicing Catholic SAHM of 6. We have been married almost 20 years. Our oldest is going to college in the fall. We are at wits end on how to pay for this. She is working and saving. We have a little, but not enough and we did not qualify for Pell grants and the schools financial office provided very little, not even enough for food. She has picked the cheapest state college that will give her the degree she wants. We are going to do all we can, and certainly leave the rest up to God. We know he will provide. I want to also add that my dd has worked hard in school and will be graduating with top honors and has an 1140 SAT score. Unfortunately to qualify for a scholarship at this college one had to have at least 1180 SAT. It isn't a great SAT, but it is the best she could get.
My question is this, does anyone have a clue how large families manage this? I dared not put this on a non-Catholic board, because the first thing I would hear is, "that is why I did not have 6 kids." The plan all along was for me to go back to work once my kids were old enough, and I did that for a little bit, and then we were blessed with 2 more little darlings. So the ages of my children are this, 18, 15, 14, 10, 3, & 1. It is really a joy to be the mother of these wonderful children. I just wanted to ask my question where it was safe. KWIM? :)
Peace and Gods blessings,
