We went to open house for the Catholic grade school we'll be sending DD to in the fall. It's connected to the other Catholic parish in town, and relatively small. We have friends who send their kids there, but weren't too familiar with the school as a whole.

As I was sitting listening to the presentation, I got more and more excited about how much focus on Catholicism there is (and that's coming from me, having had Catholic education from K-college). There's morning prayer every morning. There's prayer before lunch. There's prayer after lunch. (I love this part.) Before recess, they say the Prayer of Saint Francis. They attend Mass as a school every Wednesday. They have half days on first Fridays. Every October and May they recite the rosary as a school twice a week.

On Sunday at Mass, DD was suddenly gifted with a moment of inspiration when staring at the crucifix-- "Mommy, so Jesus was killed, but who killed him?" and then "Oh so the bad guys thought he was bad. So he died, and then he came back to life to show them that he wasn't bad, he was good, right?" I just couldn't imagine her going to a school where faith wasn't a part of her day, you know?

Just had to share.

Happy Catholic Schools Week and Congratulations on chosing Catholic School for your child.

Though my children are in public school,I will always have a place in my heart for the Catholic School system I grew up in - it's the foundation (the weekly mass, the prayers, etc etc) that you share that are deep rooted as fond memories I've held onto...........I hope you and she get out of it as much as I remember.
