Shopping for First Communion

We had our parents meeting last night and the parish is pretty liberal about dress code. The R.E. director left a lot of room. I'll be heading out to buy new clothes for my son in a few weeks and I'm not sure if I should go with short or long sleeves for the dress shirt. And I guess the tie should be a solid to match the pants? Or can it be more colorful like a nice spring tie?

Oh and we also found out that parents will not be allowed to take pictures during the Mass, but instead they've asked a professional photographer (actually two) and they will capture the kids as they receive communion and the proof of the shot will be sent out with the certificate. Everyone basicaaly "awwwed" at this news. But it was for practical reasons. This year there are 191 students making their First Communion, the largest class in parish history.

When my ds made his First Communion, we opted for the long sleeve white shirt and a conservative (spring type) tie. He looked so good dressed like this. Most boys in his class wore the long sleeve shirt, it looked so much better especially when he took his picture .

As for the professional photographer, I think it is a better idea than to have all those different family members for that one child all standing up front taking pictures as the child receives his first communion and "bumping" all over each other trying to take the perfect picture. Believe me it is less distracting and more organized this way.
