Let me start by saying we go to mass EVERY Sunday as a family (or sometimes split up).

Is she going to be gone the entire weekend, both Saturday and Sunday?

Wow, Karin! What a dilemma. I don't envy you on this one. :S

I would check into Saturday evening or Sunday evening masses first. When is she expected back home? Will it be late Sunday? There are some nice churches in the city. She might enjoy going to a mass in a different church, but that would require the mom to want to take her.

Honestly...I think it's a slippery slope. No, missing mass won't tarnish her soul, but it might lead to a more relaxed view of her definition of "Sunday Obligation", KWIM?

Tough decision to make. If the Saturday night/Sunday night masses won't work, the mom refuses, and she misses Sunday, I would tell her she needs to mention it in her next confession. I'd probably also have her go to a couple of weekday masses to kind of make up for it (even though that's not exactly the right way to say it). I'd be worried (if it was my son, who's only 5 now) that they might think that missing one Sunday is fine if you can "make up" the time elsewhere. Interesting dilemma, that's for sure.

Good luck with however you decide to handle it. Let us know how it goes!

Yay! Potential crisis averted! I'm so glad it worked out. I hope they all have a great time this weekend.
