I approach these things with a huge heap of caution.

I know all the kids at school have Myspace's.

I think Facebook is quite a bit different from Myspace. I don't have a Myspace, but do have a Facebook account. Facebook seems to be more for everyone, and not just the tween/teen/college set, first of all. Secondly, the security seems a bit better. As you know, I'm really paranoid about on line security, due to my former job. It took me like 4 years to even post any pictures of my family here on iVillage, LOL! When you sign up for Facebook, you need to go to the privacy settings (At the top of the main page) and click that you only want your friends to be able to access your information. Whenever someone contacts you to become a friend of yours, you need to approve them first. I have gotten several friend requests from old high school buddies that I'm just not sure I want to be in touch with that closely at this point, so I have just ignored their requests. No one can have access to your information unless you allow them access.

The thing with Facebook that is nice is that it is a way to keep in touch with many people at once. You can post daily updates as to how you're doing, and all your "friends" (Which might include relatives also) will see them and can comment on them, or just know that you're alive, LOL. This is good for me, as I'm not one to be able to keep in close contact with tons of people. My 3 sisters are also on there, as well as my SIL Bernadette, and it allows us to be in touch with one another easily as a group.

There are several groups on Facebook, also. I didn't know about the Catholic Moms one, but I don't doubt it. I haven't joined many. I know there are professional groups, alumni groups from schools you attended, mothering groups, etc. But you choose which ones you want to access.

Facebook just seems a bit more "mature" than Myspace. People of all ages are on there. In fact, my mom wants to join because she now has figured out that all her daughters are on there, and doesn't want to be left out, LOL. But this is not unusual. Several of my friends have their parents on there.

If you do decide to join, it's free and easy, and you can always delete yourself if you don't like it. Be sure to put in a "friend request" for me if you want. I am listed under my first name, middle name and last initial. I am so paranoid that I won't even use my full last name on line, LOL. So go to the Search Bar and put in for "Sofia Karis S" and my name will come up, and you can put in a friend request. Then I'll approve you. That goes for anyone else on here that is a regular poster, or known lurker, too. I'd love to be in touch off the board on a more regular basis! :)

BTW, Kimberly, Brandi, Jeannine and Megan are on there and on my Friends' List, and I'm trying to talk Monica into joining up. I think she will.

Let me know if you decide to join!!

Do I need to keep it anonymous when I set it up, or can I control what is seen by others after setting it up?

Karen, it's totally up to you how much information you share. Go to:

www dot facebook dot com

And click on "sign up" or whatever it is. If you want to just use your first name and last initial, I think you can do that. What I did is use my first name, middle name and last initial. There are people that I *do not* want to add as friends! Not that I have enemies, but I did work criminal justice for a while, and don't want certain people having access to me through Facebook, kwim? Also---there are high school friends that have put in "Friend Requests" for me that I've ignored. It sounds mean, but some people I just do not want seeing me all the time. I've just moved on, LOL.

After you register, click on "Privacy Settings" and YOU can decide who can see your profile or not. If you choose "Friends Only", the way I did, you will have to approve everyone who sees your information. It's all up to you.

Let me know if you join up so I can add you! I hope you do :)
