Triduum Celebrations

The celebrations of the Triduum are unlike any others in the liturgical year.

Have you been?

Will you go?

With kids or without?

Do you have a favorite?

This year, like most, we will do Holy Thursday and Good Friday. We leave Saturday morning for my mother's house out of state which pretty much wipes out the possibility of attending the Easter Vigil here.

My daughter served at the Mass of the Lord's Supper last night and will serve again this afternoon. She really likes taking part in these liturgies because they are different from the norm. Although, she was a little miffed because the boy servers (there were 6 in all, 2 of them girls) got all of the "good jobs" such as thurifer, cloaking Father with the special vestment for the procession, preparing the altar for the Liturgy of the Eucharist, etc. She was a candle bearer and in her words "dirty foot water carrier" meaning she and the other girl server were the ones who brought the bowls of water to the sacristy after the foot washing. She also got to participate in stripping the altar which she said was pretty neat. She will go for practice this morning at 11 for this afternoon's liturgy. Tonight, we will go to our school's presentation of the Living Stations of the Cross - our 8th grade students present this each year and does a wonderful job.

I had toyed with the idea of stopping at two churches on the way home for adoration, but by that point, my daughter was a little "churched out". They had gone to morning prayer at school, she had practice for Mass at 11 and then Mass itself. I told her about the tradition of visiting three churches, and while she was a little intrigued, she was happy to just go home.

Last night, only my daughter and I went; today all of us will go. Easter Sunday Mass will be at my mom's little country church - another treat.

Didn't make it to either Holy Thursday or Good Friday this year because of work (or last year either).

I'm late answering this - it's Thursday after Easter! My dh and I have both attended the whole Triduum for as long as I can remember. We've both been singing in our choir (two different parishes) since before we were married. Our two sons did come with us for some of the Triduum different years when they were growing up (they're now 30 and 33 and both married). We always gave them the choice to go or not.
