Where does your choir sit??

Decided to stop hijacking the FHC thread... *lol*

We sit up front facing the congregation. We are right beside the Tabernacle and kinda behind... again, don't know the terms (Gee, I am going to be SO good at RCIA... *lol*) where the Priest sits. We are very 'out of the way'. Almost too separated from everyone else.

Our parish is drawing to the end of Phase 1 of Constructing a new church. (if anyone is interested, you can download the virtual tour here of the new church! http://www.scrcparish.com/church_video_20.html ) Anyway, the choir will be sitting on the main floor with the congregation. We are hoping it will force the congregation sing along with us as they can not really 'watch' us.

It sounds like Ruth sits in the choir loft. That is so cool!! I have only ever been in one church where the choir actually sang from the loft. And that was when I was in a children's choir and we were the 'angels' in some piece we were singing.

Standing at the back of the church, facing the altar, our choir sits to the left in the front.

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
the rains fall soft upon your fields
and until we meet again,
may God hold you in the palm of His hand.

You're right Marianne. Our choir is in the choir loft, because that's where the organ is LOL. There would be some room for us downstairs - our parish has two regular center aisles and two other "wings" on each side. Sort of like "in the round", except that it's more rectangular than round. The choir would be fine in one of the wings, but won't happen because the organ is not likely to get moved downstairs.

I also sing in the diocesan choir at the Cathedral. That choir is also small, about 20-25 people and the organ is downstairs with the congregation on the right front facing the sanctuary. The choir is aside of the organ but facing the congregation.
