I know this is very different from what we are used to, but we will all learn this new format together as we go along. This format has many new features that are exciting.

Here are links to two great sites that will help you learn to navigate better:

If you have questions after looking at these helps, give a holler and we will get your answer for you.

And... please be patient with Susan and I, too! It's all new to us! Granted, we've known about it a little longer than the rest of you, but it's so different that it's going to take a while!

One thing that I discovered is the "outline view". If you click on it, it will "look" more like the old boards. :o)

The outline view also shows the archives, so if you want to read posts from yesterday, or before, this is where you can do it. You cannot reply to the archived posts though.

I have some questions:

How does rating the post work? What is the point of it? Are we rating it on whether we agree with the post, or how well it is written? I'm confused on that.

What is the add friends/ignore post feature? Is it possible for me to not see any posts that come from a certain person, and what does adding a name to my friends list do?

And most important of all, how on earth did you get that REALLY COOL snowflake to appear under your name?

Okay, maybe someone spilled my Cheerios this morning but I can't stand these boards. I liked it much better when you could read the original post and all the replies without clicking here and there. Who has time for all that fuss?

Isn't iVillage's "claim to fame" that they "make women's lives easier"? This isn't doing it for me. Sorry. All it's done is irritate me, take up TOO MUCH of my time and make me wonder if I'm going to keep coming back here if it takes MORE of my time to read and find the posts than it's worth.

Please pass this along to the "powers that be", please, Susan and/or Kriste? Thanks.

Gayle

P.S. I'm really not in a bad mood this morning...I just don't see HOW it could be better this way if we have to spend MORE TIME getting thru the boards (which NO ONE has enough of these days anyway).

Here are your answers:

1. Rating of the posts. Personally, I don't care for this aspect for two reasons. First, it is very subjective to the person who is rating it and secondly, I would feel bad if someone rated my post as not worth reading. The reasoning behind it is to provide a way for board members to rate something as to its importance. If you feel like a certain post should be read by all, then you would rate it 5 stars, and if you thought it was needless, then you would rate it a 1.

2. Add Friends does two things. First, if you mark someone as a friend, then in the outline view, a little guy wearing a hat will appear next to all their posts. That way, you can easily pick out any posts that person has written and can read them. I guess an example of using that would be if you wanted to be updated on Jenna and baby Gina, you could mark her as a friend, and then quickly scan for any post she has written. The second thing it does is give privacy to your profile. When setting up your profile, you can choose whether to make it visible to everyone, or just to people on your friends list. Also, there are certain parts of your profile that are only available to those on that list.

3. Ignore post. If for some reason there is someone you don't like, or don't like their posts, you can ignore them and their posts will not show up. Both the ignore list and the change list can be revised by editing in your profile. One point to mention about the friends and ignore list. It only know your preferences when you are logged in. This can be confusing because you can read the boards without logging in to them (the login is near the top of the board), so if you don't log in, the "board" (for lack of a better term) does not know who you are and will not show your preferences.

4. Don't you just love my cool snowflake? That is a perk they have given the cls with the new board. Non-cl board members can add an image to their name (by going into their profile and choosing add image), but they are limited to a selection given to them by ivillage. As a cl, I am able to go one step further and create and add my own image. Maybe this will entice some of you to go ahead and apply for the cl position that Kriste is vacating.

I will be glad to pass along your feedback. The new board format definately takes some getting used to. As Kriste suggested, if you click on outline view, you will be able to see the original post, plus all the reponses to it. Maybe this will make things a little easier for you.

I think you were on vacation when she posted it. She's not going anywhere, just stepping back. Here's the link to her post.

BTW, the search feature is one thing I really LOVE about this new format.

I have to agree here. I like it much better when I could be reading a post and see all the replies to it right there. I don't like having to click back and forth.

Also, is there some way to set my preferences to always see the outline view instead of having to click on it everytime I come to the board?

I also liked being able to see at a glance if I had read a message by the color of the title on the old boards. Now I have to remember if I've read it. And with preggo brain it's hard enough to remember my own name much less if I've read something! LOL!

This sure is going to take some getting used to!
