our new family home evening...

We have started something new for family home evening. Since my MIL is dying my IL's (BIL's, SIL's) are concerned about the toll that her dying is going to take on the family. My FIL is old. He is 81 or 82 and has spent the past 2 years caring for his ailing wife and the past many, many years taking care of his family...he is an awesome dad/FIL who steps in to help wherever needed. He is also a very devoted husband, my MIL is his sweetheart. Honestly, the love they share is such a romantic love, even after 40+ years of marriage. Anyway, since it is possible that we may lose them both within a short period of time there has been concern about what will happen within the family when they're gone. Some of the siblings have seen families fall apart with fighting and anger at each other when they lose both parents so...one of my BIL's suggested that we get together every week for family night. We have done it for the past 3 Sundays and everyone who can come comes. It has been really good. I think I would suggest it to anyone, even people who have families that are not in "crisis". It brings family closer together. It makes it so that we don't forget or get too busy to hold family night because we know that others are counting on us. We take turns giving the lesson between families and everyone brings a treat to share. It has just been awesome!

My fathers siblings do this about once a month, and they call them popcorn sundays.
